Hi,

Just wondering if anyone with the new iPod Nano has used it with an in-car interface - one of the ones which connects to your in-car stereo and lets you control the iPod from the main radio controls?

If you have, or if anyone has the opportunity to test, could you please post back and let me know whether the touchscreen controls are still available when it's connected please? My old iPod Nano 4G would lock all of the iPod's controls, meaning i could only control it from the car's own interface. I'm kinda hoping the new Nano will let me use the touchscreen still.

Cheers,

David

it would probably be the same, it would lock you out of control when you hook it up to a car stereo.

Some car stereos however have an option to give the control back to the ipod.

No, it won't let you use the touchscreen once the in-car interface is activated. You only get the screen with the Apple logo...

Every car stereo manufacturer is different, though. Mine has the option to either control the receiver with the ipod, or the reverse. As soon as I see one of the new nanos I'll try it out.

True, and i would be interested to hear if it does work for anyone, and which brand of car interface they're using. Unfortunately for me, as my car kit disabled the controls on my Nano 4G, i strongly suspect that it will still do it on the 6G - essentially i was hoping that, with what appears to be a fairly major change to the OS for the Nano, that functionality would have been left out / changed / the user given the option.

Slightly annoying for me as i'd kinda bet on something having changed, as that would make a massive difference to the way i use it. As a result i've already sold my 4G Nano, but now not sure the upgrade is worth it - given that it spends 99% of its life sat on my dashboard the size isn't a big deal, and if i can't use the controls then it might as well not have a touchscreen... :(

My car interface sucks :( I just got it a year ago (its some Clarion crap) and it won't even charge newer iPods. Thankfully I had an old 80 gig iPod video laying around that I was able to attach to it.

Anyone knowledgeable with car stuff know what brand you can hook the newer iPods to so that they will charge and you can control the iPod from the iPod?

(Sorry OP I hope that wasn't a hijack since I think it will help you and everyone else :) )
