Very very (very!) unlikely. Just from a quick look it seems that the new display uses a completely different hinge design. The Retina MBP also has slightly different length and width dimensions than the non-retina.

Was just throwing it out there, I doubt it, but also, when Retina displays become available for a lot of PC manufacturers, there might be one compatible with the Pro.

Yeah, that's possible. The panel in the Retina Macbook is too tightly integrated into the design of the laptop, but an off-the-shelf panel might work. You may have trouble though, the integrated part of the switching graphics might not work very well at those resolutions.

Is there a huge speed/performace difference in the new 2012 ivy bridge processors, compared to last years mbp?

talking 13' and 15'

thanks

The new Airs got the new quiet asymmetrical fans so the new non-retina Pros probably got them too. Can anyone comment if the new non-retina Pros are much quieter under load?

It doesn't cost you extra, it's an upgraded mini-displayport which has existed on Mac's even since the unibody redesign years ago. If you want to disregard the thunderbolt aspect, go ahead but you can't say that it doesn't work and it cost extra because it doesn't.

You are right - I got a bit carried away there . ;)

I find TB quite exiting actually, but am a little frustrated by the small number of external devices, like hubs or harddrive enclosures.

Also, I don't know of any TB-FW hubs yet, and how they will work with demanding external devices, like digital backs, cameras, port powered hdds, etc. .

I'm aware I'm part of a minority of users, but my workflow and computing gear is based on FW connectivity - even if I wanted to, it'd be almost impossible to switch to TB right now; too few offerings, at too high prices ...

I understand those adapters don't exist yet, TB to FW might be very expensive, and there is 0 evidence it might work .

TB isn't even around yet properly -does it work, and how are the adapters doing ?
TB is just a hole in the case right now , doing nothing but cost you money to connect the few things available for it .

TB has been around for over a year and there are many devices available for it. Just today I ordered a BlackMagic Intensity Extreme Thunderbolt. Are you suggesting that I spent my money on something that isnt' around yet properly? How odd.

The TB to Gigabit Ethernet is available for sale from Apple right now. The TB to FW800 has been announced by Apple at the keynote speech and will be available soon. What are you smoking and where can I buy it?

TB is not just a hole, there is already a TB/Ethernet adapter for sale.....

If you took the time to do a search on the apple site you'd find it.

why do i get the feeling that some folks just post with 14th hand information? (not pointed at theSeb)
