    Hi all,

I pulled the trigger on an order the day before the recent rumor about a refresh. I got this email about my iMac (27", wired keyboard -- everything else standard) and am wondering what it means. Is it just a standard delay, or will this end up getting swapped with some kind of refreshed model? Here's the email:

To me it seems like this means that new iMac will be released tomorrow so they want to hold shipping yours until next week after refresh?

If you got the numeric keyboard, it already goes to 3 or so extra days shipping, so.. but still, 4 days extra than usual is a bit odd.

That's normal. Any change whatsoever and shipping changes to 1-3 days automatically.

This delay in shipping is interesting. I definitely wouldn't read too deep into this. It is possible that a new iMac may be released within the next week. However, it could also simply be just a delay in shipping.

Also, why pull the trigger knowing that a refresh is arriving very soon? If you needed an iMac today, you could have easily gone and purchased it at an Apple retail store or an authorized reseller.

As I said in the post, I pulled the trigger the day before the big speculation kicked in -- over a week ago. First days at a new position = new computer. This borrowed laptop isn't going to cut it.

And no, I couldn't "have easily gone and purchased" in person because this is a large institution and that's not how it's done.

I don't really need whatever a refresh will offer (higher specs are nice in theory, but it won't make much difference for my needs here) but I would like something to ship soon!

Apart from the big rumors that have circulated, I think this is some of the most compelling evidence in terms of a date for an iMac refresh yet.

If you need it soon then call them and say you really needed it by a certain date but since it isn't shipping on time then ask if they will upgrade you to free overnight delivery.

Just a thought maybe it's a stupid one but.......

This must point to a refresh this week surly as why would Apple ship him an iMac next Monday that he can return in a 14day period when the newer model will hopefully have arrived?

I know apple may not think like this but surly they would limit the chance of potential returns around this time if for nothing else other than to save them having to deal with restocking older models? no?

It is not inconceivable to think they may assume he is new to mac and this may mean he will use safari which will him take him to apple.com as his home page so he would find out abut the new released iMac and then may decide he want this instead so returns his thus making things (albeit minimally) more complicated(annoying) for apple?

Feel free to shot this idea down :)

P.S. Amazon are shipping the 27" i5 at £1508 now only 4 left in stock!

I like how even the smallest thing makes everyone jump to the refresh conclusion. While it very well could be true, this isn't the first time someone asks something and everyone starts saying they'll be a refresh on Tuesday.

Surely you meant "surely" and not "surly", right?

    Apple's iMac Refresh History:

    July 2010: Tuesday
    October 2009: Tuesday
    March 2009: Tuesday
    April 2008: Monday
    August 2007: Tuesday
    September 2006: Wednesday
    January 2006: Tuesday

There's a high chance it'll be a Tuesday, although Apple has also released refreshes of other models on Wednesday and Thursday.

Several delays different places and May 2nd as a new shipping date? This is the clearest indication we got so far that the refresh will occur next tuesday.

I remember once in 1999 I was waiting for a Blue G3 (in Berlin). I received a phone call from Apple asking if I wanted a G4 instead of the G3, for a little extra (like 30-50 $ or something), or if I wanted to cancel the order. Of course I screamed: YEAH, send the G4 right away!!!

That was then and I guess things didn't change much. I suppose they'll just send you the new model as soon as it becomes available, and you may probably have an option to cancel, but why would you do that if the price is similar?

Are others who ordered the current iMacs also receiving similar 'delayed shipment' emails? I checked this thread below and people are still receiving shipment of the current iMacs:

I don't see anyone in that thread that has received a purchase within the last month except refurb orders.

My Apple status page now says:

It was ordered the 15th. While upgrades are nice, I just really want this damn thing to arrive already so I can ditch this borrowed PC laptop and get productive already. Do I have good cause to call and ask for expedited shipping?

Yes absolutely. I would call and ask for the next day shipping.
