When the watch is off powered down if you press the lower button the time now pops up for a few seconds. Is this a new feature?

I could have missed it, seems like a good way to conserve power though. I might start the day with the watch fully off for my nearly two hour commute, but still be able to check the time. When I need to, then power up just before arriving at the office...

You did not power off, you activated Power Reserve.
It was there from beginning.

I guess I have to buy a second Watch to enjoy the main new feature of os2.2 great. They could have added some new watch faces at least. I guess since new bands are out they assume we'll all buy a second one..

2.2 isn't a major release. Just wait for 3.0 this fall.

I'm in a really cynical mood these days. I see Apple releasing new bands every few months but not a single new face that wasn't already promised during the initial reveal in 2014. Seems pretty clear that Apple is really motivated to get bands out the door because they can make money off of them. Faces won't be a priority until they figure out how to make money off those as well. To me that means one of two things. Either they'll have a watch face store so they can charge for them, or any new faces will require AW 2. Given Apple's attitude over the last several months, I'm leaning toward the latter.
