I purchased the full upgraded configuration minus the 1TB Drive, I stuck with the 512
. I did this because I plan to use this computer for the next 3-5 years. I felt the upgrade was worth it first of all so I didn't find myself using it in a year or 2 wishing the whole time I had done the upgrade all along. I also went back and forth between deciding on the 13 or 15 inch, the size was the main thing for me, so if I went with the 13" (Which I did) I wanted the best version available.
I did this same thing with the 2012 13" MacBook Pro and never regretted it the whole time I owned it. The speed difference may not be huge, but peace of mind and watching that rendering wheel spin to completion faster than I have ever seen on a 13 inch gave me instant purchase satisfaction. I'll also mention I sold that 2012 Macbook for $300 more than many others I saw listed, and it went fast.....let that confirm your thoughts on the increased resale value for what it's worth.
I also used my Wife's Educator discount. This save me a couple hundred dollars, so it made the upgrade price negligible. I would suggest if you know a teacher to ask them to help get the educator discount, this may make it the no brainer for you that it was for me. If you work for a larger company, they might have a company discount with Apple, couldn't hurt to check into that as well.
This of course is all personal choice. You know what you want, and if you could afford it, and don't want to constantly look back wishing you did it...
