Between Philips' invention, the current state of TV, and iTunes (IMO) poor video capability, it becomes harder and harder for many people NOT to turn to torrents. The shows they offer are commercial-free, they are often higher res than iTunes or DVD offers, and you can play them in whatever media player you choose.

One o the main reasons (other than price) that Apple and the television industry have been losing ground to pirated TV shows is because the pirated versions are simply of better quality than the purchased ones; until this changes, the torrent scene will (and, in my opinion, deserves to) continue to dominate.

How are the torrents better quality? I know someone that showed me the shows he "downloaded" and the shows have the quality of SLP VHS. The ads and station ids are at the bottom of the screen and you can tell the commercials were edited out. How is this better than, say the DVDs or the upcoming High Def stuff?
