You've got to be kidding me, this is just going to be a cheaper replacement for the iPad 2 but smaller, no way will it have the same retina resolution as the iPad 3. I really don't see the purpose in this device for current owners of an iPad.

Where did he say it would have retina?

Ha,ha. I hear what your saying, but for me an iPad about the size of an ereader with lots of storage and 3g would be ideal. It would be more portable but still big enough for comfortable reading and browsing. Your probably right about the lack of retina, but hopefully whatever resolution they use will look fairly sharp on the smaller screen.

I really hope they do offer 64GB, I would buy that. I'm not sure why they wouldn't if they want to just make this a smaller iPad with few differences, but you never know.

Take another look at the first pic, toward the bottom left side. Doesn't the shell look far too long? Like, it should cut off, but the metal just keeps on going? Is anybody else seeing this? Picture is suspect.

That's just an issue of perspective. Though, there's strange artifacting around the Apple and iPad logos. The iPad label itself almost looks like a decal.

And don't get me started on the crappy lighting, especially in the pics that are back-lit by a cheap CCFL laptop screen. You can't even tell what color this thing is supposed to be. I mean, seriously? Back-lit pics? By an off-white light source? My dog can take better photos, you part thieving whore!

I'm glad to see it's widescreen. Movies are gonna look awesome on this!:D

Like on the new phone only if they are widescreen movies, otherwise no they will not look "awesome". Out of interest what percentage of your DVD collection is widescreen? Out of 700 dvd's I'm looking at 15%

Fake as

This is one of the worst fakes I've seen..it's totally ugly, no screw holes, dodgy apple symbol, too plain inside, fake.

Got one of these already ... Its called a Nexus 7 and its very good and does a lot more than my iPad one thanks

Headline for this: New Photos Show Details of Alleged 'iPad Mini' Rear Shell. iPhone 5 doesn't even get "alleged" anymore. :)

The one thing that makes me wonder about a refresh of a few of the apple products is the new dock.

It would be very un-apple to have a new iphone and try to sell you an iPad and nano etc with a different dock.

Slightly off topic..

If this is an iPad mini, I have no idea how it will fit in to my life, but I already know I will end up buying one.

$299 - iPad Mini 16GB
$399 - iPad Mini 32GB
$499 - iPad Mini 64GB

I know this is not a sure thing, even know pricing is still off when it comes to storage bumps, hundred dollars more for 16GB is a bit dated, the same goes for the current iPad, the memory feels like one of the cheapest aspects of the device at the 16GB and 32GB levels.

As an engineer, this looks like a mood. Maybe even something that's been made on a 3d printer. If this is supposed to be the alu back plate there's very litte signs of machining. Compare a iPad 2 rear shell and see how much more detail there is in it.
Or the iPad mini will have a plastic rear sheel which I can't see happening.

I agree. It looks to be way too thick for the size and the charging port is not centered on the bottom, there is too much aluminum to the left of the port.

Where is the cutout for the logo and how come the logo and iPad name don't look centered?

To all who think it's going to be $200, you are dreaming. The Nexus 7 is sold at cost, with a plastic cases and only 8GB storage. The iPad mini is going to be a full featured, high quality 7" tablet, something that doesn't yet exist in the marketplace. It's going to be for the consumer that wants a lighter, more compact tablet, not one who is trolling for the least expensive option.
