New "picture" of 2013 Mac Pro

One cool aspect to the design is that the aluminum cover can probably be re-annodized in a colour of your choice for very little. I suspect it won't be long before ColorWare offers this. Who knows, maybe Apple themselves will offer the Mac Pro C (in a variety of bright colors)! 😀 😛

the saying is the other way around.. round will fit in square.. square won't fit in round

He's saying that the original quote had the arrangement wrong. It's commonly said "like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole" and NOT the other way around. Given that the diameter of the circle and the width of the square are the same (like in the pic that was posted), you can technically fit a round peg into a square hole. Hence the wrong quote originally.
 
Well the price per pound will certainly be higher on the NEW MPro - 😀 thank goodness. I think a bunch of matching teepee shaped hard drive enclosures will be an interesting setup on my desk.

And in fact, a round peg is a tighter fit in a square hole than a square peg in a round hole 🙂 Which I'm sure we can use to conclude the new Mac Pro is better than the old! 😀

Actually, on a per pound basis, the current pro is the cheapest computer on the market. Metal recycling companies are going to maintain a depreciation floor price for years.

Oh I was just having fun with twisting the phrase given that the Mac (Mini) Pro is more 'in' line with a Mac Mini. Sorry if some didn't catch the joke. In any case, I still feel the Mac Pro is being phased out and the new device has far more in common with the Mac Mini.

I for one am looking forward to this machine. Built many tower MPs for clients and considered the size and power requirements to much for my needs. Now if they can just nail the price. For comparison, keep in mind that the tower was not (that I ever saw) assembled in china, so it should come down to complexity, materials, technology, and scale.

Maybe I missed something since, but all the initial reports described a process of forming sheet metal. Start with a square and force it through a special form. Shouldn't itself be $$. Now if they can find some econo video cards or offer a version with just one, for 1.5x 4k displays worth of power.

(though i still don't get the thing about the new mac having far more similarities to the mac mini.. do one of those side by side comparisons so i can see what you're getting at?)

I believe it has more in common based on being all inclusive. Other than RAM, the Mini was not designed to have anything changed internally (perhaps for those more venturous they change the drive). Neither have disc rw built in and both are expected to have "additions" or "expansion" done on the outside. The Mac Pro can have additions and expansion internally and externally which is very different than the Mini and the new Mac (mini) Pro. If the new MP came in a square that was 2-3 times the height of the present Mac Mini but same footprint, what would you say it was? - Either a Mac Midi Pro or Mac Mini Pro most likely.
