I'm a recently registered member but I've been reading the site and the comments for a long time.

Everyone agrees that the comments section can be pretty harsh sometimes, right?

What I've noticed is there are actually more people predicting negativity than there is actual negative comments. Examples:
  • In before "Samsung is the worst"
  • "Fire Tim Cook" posts in 3... 2... 1...
And these posts get upvoted like crazy. Why allow them?
They contribute 0 value as a comment.
They just set the stage for negativity and comment bickering.
They perpetuate an argumentative spirit.

Can we consider banning these posts?
(If you haven't noticed this problem before, you may start to see it everywhere now that it's been brought up).

I'd love to hear what you think.

In my opinion that's the posters way of making the statement without making the statement. I'll second this.

Have you tried flagging them? How did mods respond? They seem to fit the bill for “frivolous post” not unlike “#gate” posts.

I can do that from now on. I was hoping for some kind of response from the mods before submitting a bunch of flags. I emailed them early August but not response.

What email address did you mail to? We respond to all messages (unless they're obviously spam or extremely rude). I can't find a record of a message from you via our Contact Us link. Maybe you mean that you submitted a post report? We generally send a semi-automatic message for these, but it could have fallen through the cracks.

Sorry, I probably used the wrong one: tips@macrumors.com
