Black plastic may be durable but it also makes for an incredibly un-trendy computer. Apple's not going there. And rubber? Ha!

I seriously doubt they will be moving away form metal since heat dissipation depends on the metal design so they can keep the thinkness and weight down. It will be interesting to see though. I think we're still at least a year away from a new PB design.

So that means they probably already have a solid desighn thought out already.

How about glass? (or clear plastic, that'd be a little less nasty when you drop it) Then you could choose between seeing the innards, or foil to turn the thing into a mirror! :p

I am joking, btw...

I doubt they will change them much at all. But even if they do, you can bet it will stay metal. As for the color of the metal...

90% sure it will remain brushed metal.
10% sure it will be brushed black metal with glossy illuminated keyboard.

As for them being perfect already, I think that as well until they release a new model. :p

Pure White Metal

Apple will develop a pure white metal.

I rather like the black plastic, but if I could vote for something new, it would be to have a thin clear acryllic shell over the aluminum. I know it hurts the heat transfer, but heat can come out of the keyboard through perfectly-placed slits in the acryllic. :)

How about Powder Coated

I've always liked the idea of powder coated metal. It's durable compared to most other paints...

If anyone has ever watched american choppers with OCC then they know what I'm talking about. Here is link explaining what it is.

My vote is for carbon fiber. Carbon fiber doesn't dent..... it shatters. :D

AFAIK, carbon fiber doesn't make a very good Faraday cage either... :p

Black???!!!

I certainly believe that Apple is signatured white or silver...Black would be just like any other notebook computer out there...They should certainly stick with their metallic look!

Yeah, I would like a design as the PowerBook G3s. Ahh, boy did i like the removable cd-rom/dvd rom and 2 batterys in.

I hope they go something like that for the Intel PBs.

I love that my current PB looks distinctly different to other laptops...
and I hope that whatever Apple move to (if they do) that they will keep their hardware looking distinctly different to other brands.

My PB continues to turn heads - and I love that!

Any anodized aluminium.. It's light, not too expensive, and dissipates heat well.
Not to mention looking cool too of course

I HATE the aluminum. It feels like tissue paper. I wish they would do titanium again. I remember when the AlBooks came out and just thinking-cheap. I'll take my durable plastic iBook any day over an aluminum PB. Bring back the titanium PowerBook!

I like the metallic finish....surely a head turner they are!!!! Whatever they do they should keep the metallic finish....black makes me remember those bulky dells at school........

Metal Powerbooks look far from unique IMO; they've been copied to death by every PC notebook maker by now. I have yet to see an iBook copy, though. Personally, I think Pismo G3s were the best looking Powerbook, and I'd love to see another black Powerbook release, but probably in something more professional than plastic. Black brushed metal Powerbooks would compliment white plastic iBooks quite nicely, I think.

Black plastic will end up looking horribly cheap like the Thinkpad i have to use for work. eeeugh.

I wouldn't mind if Apple reverted back to black plastic, the G3's were excellecnt models. The Thinkpads are very well built, and don't feel very cheap at all. Not sure which one you are using.
Whatever Apple uses next for their next-gen pro-books, I hope they don't get as hot as current powerbooks. I was doing some work the other night and had to take small breaks every couple minutes 'cause it kept buring my wrists.
