I have a Pismo with a gig pf RAM running OS X no problem, and I have seen the TiPBks. To be perfectly honest, I prefer the sexier, "Batman's Laptop" overall look of my Pismo. Of course features wise there is no comparison whatsoever, but I too can attest to the rock-solid durability of this machine. My wife dropped it from waist high onto our oak hardwood floors--not even a scratch. Yes, it might be "tonka-like" plastic, but plastic GIVES instead of denting or shearing like paper-thin titanium does. In fact, when the Ti's first came out and MacWorld/Addict/et al began publishing initial reviews after disassembling the units, I seem to remember remarks to the effect that they are somewhat flimsy in a semi-assembled state--take out a few screws that hold the tension stress, and it goes from tough to tinny. And unlike peeling paint, my Pismo thus far has shown no scratches or casing degradation of any kind (and I'm careful but certainly not anal about its care).
I would love a glassy jet-black extra-reinforced polycarbonate casing for a G5 laptop unit when it comes out. And heck yes--full Cinemascope aspect ratio. I don't care if it makes the thing two feet wide! HDTV, the medium of the future, is widescreen, and eventually 4:3 will go the way of the 8 track. Corporate sales presentations will one day all conform as well. Let's be first! All the print design people can use the extra wide real estate for palettes, and when not watching movies Joe Consumer can use a left or right side Dock and still have huge amounts of room. Us audio guys can view mixdowns in a vertical channel arrangement and fit more onscreen at once.
Cinemascope aspect high res display, energy-efficient G5 chip, 5 GIGs MRAM from Motorola (holding memory after shutoff--startup times shorten to mere seconds), SuperDrive, all an an "onyx" sexily sculpted virually bulletproof polycarbonate casing--that's my dream unit.
But for now I'm happy with my Pismo. It can take the punishment of the "real world."
