Ok, I have another question. I am really itching to get a new Powerbook, I don't really want to wait the two weeks. :D

I just found out that I qualify for the education discount. I can basically get $200 off the PB I want to get. Do you think this deal going to be offered on the brand new ones? Also, if they make the announcement that week, how long before the new ones would start shipping?

TIA

Pretty much all of the Apple made hardware and software has an educational discount. So the new hardware (whenever it is announced) will have an education discount.

If you had a special offer over and above the standard educational discount, it might only be good for the current models.

As for how long it'll take to get afte rthey are announced? Usually powerbooks (even special orders) tend to come within 2 weeks or so of the announcement. Sometimes you can get the default configurations within a couple of days.

Thanks for the reply, so it sounds like if something new does come out, it might not be until closer to the end of the month before I would receive it? I might just have to order now.

Pilgrims Pro, listen to me here, after all we have the same bday. ;) Wait until MWSF. Worst case, they do not release anything and you can buy a PB then. If they do release one, you have two options. Buy the new improved one, or by the old one at a great discount! (Now if I could only have taken my own advice and not purchased one last month. :D )

I heard a rumor on an car forum that on Jan 11th, Apple is going to make some slight changes to the PBs. Can anyone confirm this? I am really interested in the 12", as I am tried of my first generation G4 iBook.

Here is what is posted:
12" - upgrade to 1.5 Ghz G4, BT/AE built in (like the new iBooks), 80 GB HD, Mobility Radeon 9700 (64 MB) Price $1399
15" - upgrade to 1.67 Ghz G4, BT/AE built in, 80 GB, Backlit keyboard standard, Mobility Radeon 9800 (128 MB VRAM) Price - $2299
17" - Same as 15" except 17" display - $2599

Thanks in advance!!!
You should wait 6 months for the liquid cooled g5 powerbook as rumored

meh, I can't wait six months, and having a G5 laptop is not that important to me right now.

Of course! I hope your family had a great Christmas!

I really thought so, between you being from Texas and us having the same birthday. But then I looked at your SN and knew for sure, I remember about your problems. Hit me up on AIM sometime. pilgrimspro

We had a great Christmas, how was yours? Did the kids enjoy themselves?

I will do!

If you can wait a couple of weeks, I would. If something new is released it might be shipping immediately if it's just a speed bump. Otherwise, as said, the old models usually have a pretty good discount applied to them, and you can find a place that has free/cheap shipping and/or no tax. If not, you've gone just a few more weeks without a PowerBook. You've waited this long, no sense kicking yourself later.

Pilgrims Pro, I think that you would be smart to wait. It's only another two weeks. For such a short time, it would be a shame to be disappointed later.
