Welp, it has been a long day but I am home with my G5. The harddrive is loud as sin, but everything else tip top. It doesn't like my kvm too much but its ok - not all systems like kvms.

I was also very surprised after my migration from my intel macbook that 90% of my stuff was ppc compatible, which is awesome.

Oh, I am running leopard btw.

If your HDD is bugging you, you could probably brace it with some rubber or foam padding to cut down on the noise, especially if it's just seek/vibration noise rather than platter rotation.

No surprise really, its a maxtor disk. I have issues with them (a stack of 20 dead maxtors).

I'll be replacing it soon anyways, 160 is too small for me. So it will do for now.

Holy crap. Twenty!? I've only had about 20 HDDs total, and none have failed. Dammmmn.

I've had quite a few Maxtors that have died over the years (4 or 5, I can't remember), but no where near as many as you have. Have you also had such as severe problems with drives from other manufacturers dying?

That makes me sad when thinking about how much my G5 will sell for.

Tell me about it. My MBP is lucky to get $1000 after 1 year. That's the going rate as I see it and if I want to move it in a timely manner. You could always old out for that sucker if you have patience.
