I am sort of surprised there is not more excitement about the new time for pre orders. I think this is HUGE and could really affect one's ability to get first deliveries.

For me, the time change is actually a negative.

I’m in EST so preorders start at 8AM, right when I’m in carpool dropping my daughter off. I had no problem setting an alarm for 3AM and going back to sleep a few minutes later.

Yes, for many people that is the "going to work" hour, so I can see why it is an issue for some. Me, I'm already at work by 7 EST, so its perfect for me. If I decide to pull the trigger. Still thinking about it.

I guess it’s not the worst thing in the world for me. I’ll probably just make sure that I’m first in line so that I can be ready to order right after she gets out of the car.

The other issue is actually what you just mentioned. Shifting the time makes it more convenient for more people, but that’s not necessarily a good thing IMO. The website and app typically run very slow so I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like with all the people who didn’t have to wake up early now trying to get a launch day order in.

To be fair, the last two launches (at least for me) went smoothly. I think Apple's infrastructure is good enough to handle it.

Have your daughter pre-order it for you on your phone.

I am in a sweet zone I suppose because I live in the Central time zone and so the pre-order will be at 7 am for me. My work doesn't start til 8 AM so I'll be waking up at 6 am as normal and when 7 am comes, I'll get on my iPhone and pre-order, and I am pre-approved for iUP so hopefully will be a smooth check out.

Yeah, I do wonder how preorder will go (assuming that many more people will be ordering since they'll be awake, rather than just those of us who are willing to get up in the wee hours). Still, it might be fine. Glad I'm on Central time since I start work at 8 am: I can place my order and then head to the office.

In my opinion, 5am Pacific is bad too, because there is no way one will be able to just fall back to sleep for another hour. I wake up around 6, so I essentially have to wake up at 4:55am and just stay awake.

Same with me. It really could not be a better time. But I do wonder what it will do to traffic on the app. We shall see.

I love this change! Im on EST, so it was always 3am for me. Usually I was up by 2:30am and I would be so excited It would be tough for me to go back to sleep. So now the new time is 8am EST, which I will be able to set aside a few minute to preorder and go about my regular day.

I love the new time - 5am PST = wake up alarm time for me !
I can order the phone while having my coffee that also starts making coffee at 5am.

1PM BST in the UK so everyone at lunch will be ramming the website with pre-orders. This is bad for me as normally I'd be first in work at the old time of 8AM and could preorder with ease if I did it straight away as alot of people would still be commuting, sleeping or dealing with the school run.

Exactly! Has anyone ever heard a reason why it was changed yet? The further East now, the more of a chance of it conflicting with school or work. I also didn't mind popping up at a little before 3AM, ordering, and going right back to sleep.

I liked 2 am Central better, because you had to be dedicated to get up and order for delivery day, and I think that kept some people away. Although with some of the negative comments on the forums, maybe there wont be as much demand anyway.
I said this also. Now the stalwart loyalists with have to fight the general pop for ordering.

Only issue is not everyone has a job where they are allowed to have their phone or use the computer to order an iPhone, and they can't just get up when they want to order. Wonder how many people will be going in late?

I'm shocked! I'm on the East Coast and this is the 1st time I don't have to set my alarm for 2:30 A.M.!

I kind of liked the 3am Eastern time, it was like having a little party somehow.
Me too! I remember getting up at 2:30 A.M., completing my order at 5:50 A.M. and then going to work. Ughh, the good old days!

I'm not happy, I prefer the 3 AM order on the East Coast, there's something special about wanting a phone so bad you lose sleep over it.

Ended up putting on quite the display of multitasking to get my order in this morning. I was talking to a colleague on the phone and taking notes on something while closing and relaunching the Apple Store app with my left hand. Fortunately, she hung up just after the store went live. ;)

Just got my order in thru the Apple store app - took 2 minutes after 5am to get the app to show pre-approval ordering page.
