iOS needs better group messaging/email functionality before it truly becomes great for business. Right now it's "pretty good" for business. Those of us who regularly need to message 40+ people need better functionality in this department.

Better in what way? Seriously. I've never used any berries, let alone a blackberry. I do love my strawberries though. Back on topic, I know that group messaging exists in iOS already, in what way is BB messaging better?

Add the ability to create/save groups in your contacts so you can quickly email/text an entire group.

Make it so ad hoc group texting/emailing doesn't force me to hit the plus button and go through the list of contacts every time I want to add another person to the list of recipients, and instead just lets me check all of the people I want at once.

Those are the two glaring weaknesses I personally would like fixed.

As long as you don't try to do business in NYC. Oh, and don't hold it that way...

Not true at all my friend. I was recently in NY (from Central Park all the way to 34th St) saw many many many iPhone users. Most conducting business, others enjoying talking about business.

It's a capable phone in the city that never sleeps. And it has The Apple of their eye.

Considering that guy's location is Boston, he probably hates NYC. Boo red sox. Anyway, yes, reception is not a problem in the city. It's rare for my phone to drop drop below 5 bars, except from within buildings, although even then I usualy can get a signal. They made buildings with all that metal before cell phones I'm guessing. It's the main source of connectivity problems that I've seen.

Too bad Apple's new goal is to poop in the mouth of anyone remotely professional.

My lawyer's colleague (one of the partners) uses a Mac at work. He's quite happy with it.

Quite a few Professors I know of at the University of Toronto use Macs.

Is your idea "professional" limited to people who edit video, or does it also include people who actually hold advanced professional degrees?

Apple, how about working on the FIPS140-2 compliance so the Federal Government can dump Blackberry and start using iOS devices.

Hopefully sooner than later. The new charging solutions post hinting at induction charging had me drooling. Dust and shock definitely need working on.

There is at least one dumb lawyer and a few dumb professors in Canada, and it sounds like you know all of them.

Terminals sums up most PC's.

They are probably like most Mac users, the want a computer that works for them, not one they have to work on. :D
It is somewhat disheartening when a professor drops +$2,500 (note acquisition loopholes apply at this minimum) to run a Terminal session(s) on one of our 4P servers.

Our Lawyers use Macs too, and then open up VMWare Fusion to do their work.

A person I only used BB because it was supported by the company, I guess the apps that iPhone has now makes all BB devices useless.

You should see the profiles on apple's business site. It's all about this app or that app that they rely on, as well as how easy the SDK is to use. iOS is a great environment for both consumers AND developers. In the past, developers often got the short end of the stick, well no more. Devs are as close to first class citizens on iOS as they have ever been. That's the real difference.

Maybe you should hire some new lawyers then because lawyers seemed to get by just fine without computers for a long time so I don't see why you would need windows specific software to do the job of a lawyer. Besides, I thought their legal secretaries did all of the work anyway and the lawyers just signed the papers.
;)
My sister has worked as a legal secretary over the years mainly in real estate closings. The lawyers basically looked over the documents and then signed them before they were sent out.

totally agree on this.

I found it interesting that Apple is/are talking about Microsoft Exchange and not MobileMe (revamped for business ) . Its good to work in collaboration :)

I hate to be that guy... but why is this news?

I just saw an iPad billboard put up recently. Should that be posted too?

Dude, you and all the other blasé hipsters here are missing the point. Steve J. is no longer at the helm and that is reflected in this ad. Believe it or not, that's news.

Still waiting for an update on AirPrint. :(

Can't download any ics calendar events.

some business features I would like

Lots of professionals use macs and for good reason. What they shouldn't do is to rely on macs in an enterprise environment. If it requires a significant investment to switch your infrastructure from mac based to something else there is a real risk of getting burned. Apple may love businesses but they love consumers more and if they can sell more hardware by moving resources from the business to the consumer domain the will do so.

...Which is of course completely reasonable.

Because it's new... The real question is why is this front page news?
Simple. Page clicks. Mac Rumours value higher page count over good rumour reporting and correctly placing rumours on the front or 2nd page. But that's not a bad thing. Cause every other rumour site is the same only worse.

That's why I really like Mac Rumors. Not cause they are good. They are not even close. They just suck a lot less then the other rumour sites.

Smart businesses would steer clear of Apple. The lack of roadmaps (will be fixed in a future update), the EOL of servers (thanks for the warning), the EOL of dependable workhorse software (Shake, FCP, Soundtrack), the lack of accountability (every phone does this), the 3 year obsolescence cycle - it all just adds up to too much radical change with too little warning.

BIG business can't / won't get in bed with Apple. SAP and their mobility partners are the only reason Apple as a mobile solution is getting any attention from business - and that's platform agnostic.

And Apple are really crying about this. All the way to the bank. To their 65Billion+ cash mountain they have.

Maybe it's Apple who does not want to get in bed with business fully yet. Others have and well they are not as profitable as Apple is. I'd argue the only one who has been wildly successful in business is MS.
