I am using Xcode 4.2 on Snow Leopard. When I try creating a new project I do not get the "Use Automatic Reference Counting" box in the "Choose options for your new project". I can set ARC in the build settings though. Anyone know why?

Yup, no ARC on Snow Leopard

You mean there is no button as the OP was looking for. Xcode 4.2 on SL does support ARC. In fact this new app I created was set to ARC without me setting it up. It confused me at first, but I've chosen to do this project using ARC. My first.

I believe this is a "feature" of Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard. Although SNow leopard supports ARC, it does not support all of arc, e.g., "zeroing weak references". Also, my linking is failing because it is expecting a Lion file.

I am trying to get through the Hillegas 4th edition, but in order to do so it looks like I'll have to upgrade to Lion for full ARC support.
