EDIT: The Hoya S-HMC they tested has an MSRP of $60 USD in 58mm and is Hoyas best UV filter. The cheap Hoyas will perform much worse.
My experience with Hoya multicoated filters has been that smudges are harder to clean off vs. the B+W MRC, but to each his own. The B+W are certainly more expensive.

Both companies offer expensive and not so expensive filters. I bought a Hoya Ultra-Thin CPL at B&H that costs around $168.00, and it wasn't an expensive one.
