I like the idea behind this product and would love to buy it, but there are two dealbreakers here - the HDD limit of 3/4TB, and no Mac formatted drive support.

I want to use it to stream movies on my iPad Air 3 from external HDDs that I could plug into this hub. But all my HDDs are Mac formatted and I’m not about to convert to windows or FAT - they’re full of movies and it would be too much work. And all of them are 8TB.

If they can solve these two issues I’ll buy.

Portable wireless devices like this are few and far between - I have these from RAVPower and another from Kingston and they have similar specs. The market for them is pretty limited so I doubt you'll ever see one fitting your needs.

You might be right - though I don't see my requirements as in any way exotic... I mean, support for HDDs formatted for MAC? Really? That's such a big ask? It can't be about file size, because they support NTFS, so what's the problem? And there are more and more Macs out there, and given that the iPad is the most popular tablet and this hub is addressing itself to this market, I think Mac formatting support should be a no brainer. As to larger HDD, what's the big deal - HDD are getting bigger all the time. You got 10TB drives out there gaining in popularity, and going forward the size is only going to increase, so again, if you can do 3/4TB is it such a big ask to support 8TB? I don't get it. But then again, I'm not a hub maker or marketer, so I guess I could always be surprised by what's reasonable and what not. YMMV.

I agree with you. I'd like to see faster transfer speeds - faster WiFi and USB 3 support. But putting all of that together in a small form factor is difficult at best given interference and heating challenges.

I have this device and its been great.. I use it to send 4k GoPro videos to the iPad and edit in Lumafusion (which is seriously, the future of editing..wow)

Great product.. transfer speeds are not super quick but it gets the job done. Just wish I could plug an external to my iPad Pro!

LumaFusion is the cats pajamas ain’t it!? Ive had it for the last 3 or so years when the first gen pro 12.9 came out. It’s gotten better over the years and with this rav box and there faster transfer speeds over the hootoo I used to have, i agree with you this is the business! :)

It has actually sparked my interest in editing. I am learning a lot and making I videos that I never thought I would be able to make. Adobe products can be really complicated without any training. I watched 2 video tutorials on LumaFusion on YouTube and was able to edit 3 videos, each one got better and learned animation, transitions, cutting, keyboard shortcuts.. etc.. It’s seriously amazing.. and how amazing is it the iPad handles all of this footage with no issues at all.. just amazing all around. Love it and it’s turning into quite a hobby of mine.

Your story is really cool bro. I dont like editing but at times I have to do it based on some projects i get to work on and luma has been a life saver! I’m not a fan of adobe products either and I actually use Sony Vegas on my PC. Luma has a similar workflow to Vegas and that made it easy for me to adjust to luma over time.

Long-term follow-up:

Still like my FileHub for a variety of uses but wanted to note that RavPower has been removed as a seller by Amazon due to violation of Amazon policies. I still use a variety of their products and like them but if interested in them, you need to go through the RavPower.com website.

Editorial comment: While I still do like and use their products and have endorsed them extensively on these forums, their Amazon removal was legit - they apparently offered gift cards for reviews and that's a no-no for the obvious and good reasons. I'm disappointed in them.
