"all my info"
Most likely just a turn of phrase. ;)
You act as if that 3 word, ungrammatical comment/quote/question was actually a complete sentence which doesn't need any interpretation to pin down what exactly the commenter was trying to say with it. Good day!

Because it allows partners aka Apple and friends to look at your data and your friend data.

And understand that this targets more than you. If you know the theories on social behavior and system design (what I’m earning my PhD in), you can target people by proxy. I can easily target your friend to manipulate you. It’s not as difficult when you’re dealing with a narrow issue. It’s hyper targeted marketing at its worst.

You may not care and that’s fine. But if you can’t be manipulated your brother, sister, spouse, friends can be and they can manipulate you. It’s like a virus. You can do all you want to avoid getting it, but you’re as vulnerable as the weakest person in your system.

Companies should be banned from targeted advertisement that targets individuals.
What data? Where’s the proof?

What data? Where’s the proof?

I believe this was the entire issue with Cambridge Analytica. Facebook sold information to Cambridge Analytica which then did exactly what star_nerdy is asserting.

So the issue isn't that Facebook is doing what star_nerdy outlined. The issue is that Facebook is collecting this data and then selling it to anyone willing to pay. Those entities then do what star_nerdy outlined.

Did you read the report, so is Apple! How did this turn into a Samsung bash?
Capitalism, Apple make most of thier money of hardware sales - yea some services like Apple Music, iTunes store etc. but generally pretty transparent and not targeted advertising the way Google or Facebook do.

I am pretty sure this is the same for Samsung, their main source of revenue is hardware. Bixby and Samsung made apps I bet are pretty small.

Not happy either went along to be honest.

I'm guessing you don't know what "turn of phrase" means. If you did, you'd understand that I was supporting your comment by stating that you didn't literally mean all your info. Instead you meant all your info metaphorically. But yeah, you have a good day too.

My questions that you responded to was why the comment about Samsung... Samsung is no different from Apple in that they make most of their money from hardware sales. But yet, this guy decided to call out Samsung.

If you "delete" your profile on FB, it is still there; it's just hidden. Any data you provided remains in their realm.
Not only the data itself. Much more, meta data such as face recognition results, speech recognition results, communication habits, eating habits, ...). And you do not change your face, communication or eating habits because facebook had your data. Thats unrealistic. They will know it is you, even if you deleted your facebook profile.

Quote: "Not only that, the app was also able to access "identifying information" on 294,258 friends of his friends. "

Obviously the NY Times definition of "friends" differs from my own.

I’m so glad I’ve permanently deleted my Facebook account, I rarely used it anyway.
Doesn’t help. People you know are on Facebook and they are getting the information through them, per the post.

And that has all your info?
Yes. I don’t know why that would be hard to believe. No reason to @delete” (actually deactivate, all info still there) because if you know even 1 person with Facebook, they get your information. This has been the case for a loooong time.

I really don't know how something like that would have all of someone's info. Certainly some of it perhaps, but anything even close to the vicinity of even most, let alone all?

They don’t have your files or anything like that. They know what web pages you visit, address, phone be numbers, etc. “all of it” of course means Sara that most people think of as far as life information.

So pretty far from all of your info.

There are so many sites out there gathering and combining data on you its amazing. Lots of it is free for identity thieves. Check out the site "familytreenow.com" All a criminal has to do is enter a target's name and the results include the target's family members and ALL the target's previous addresses. (That information is what credit agencies use to confirm identity.). I read a few news reports about this database being very problematic for cops who don't want criminals to know where they live.
