You’re the one speculating. From the report it’s been far from a best executed strategy. They’ve gone through show runners. They’ve had conflict. Cost has ballooned on them. Apple even admitted they have no clue. Those are facts. This is best in world ability? Lol

I know you admire Apple but this isn’t the Apple you know. This is keystone cops hour trying to make shows. It’s a joke.

Regardless this whole video venture is irrelevant for apple’s future. It’ll have no material impact and only serves as a sideshow. So there’s really no point in getting too worked up about it. It’s important these few shows are received well for Apple. It’ll make or break apple’s desire to continue with it imo.
We’ll see, won’t we? It’s definitely too early to say, but Apple is WORLD CLASS at executing strategy and has endless resources to make it a success. Content is about money, period. Apple has that.

And who cares about some speculative story on conflict? Business has a lot of conflict. I’m sure there is tons of conflict on iPhone too, but they are killing it.

So what needs to happen to declare apple tv + a success?

Maybe 100 people actually pay the $5/month?

Maybe a million hours a month of viewing (spread across the 250 million people who will have free access to it)?

Well all know Apple is going to call it the most successful streaming service ever with 250 million "paying customers" the first year no matter how few people actually watch it thanks to their phoney accounting.

Content is about money, period. Apple has that.

If that were true, Netflix originals would be a lot better. And Season 8 of Game of Thrones wouldn't have been such a travesty.

Content (and all creative work) is not as simple as throwing money at it. If it were, with Apple's $15 billion annual R&D budget, their hardware and software would be a heck of a lot better.

Maybe I'm the only one - but I'm disappointed to see so many TV-MA and R. I was actually hoping for more stuff I can watch with my kids. Everyone goes berserk when you mention filtering but I think it would differentiate Apple TV+ from everyone else. Allow parents to cut F-bombs etc.
Helpsters is rated TV-Y, Snoopy in Space is rated TV-G, Ghostwriter is rated TV-G

Netflix has a cash flow problem.

Content is far more about money than hardware and software. You can buy great content (Disney buys a lot), but very hard to buy great hardware design and software that works.

And Apple has good hardware and software. Let’s be serious. iOS is a lot better than Android is many objective ways, many of which are deal breaking ways like privacy, security, support, and long term usability.

Apple has excellent hardware, in fact industry leading A-series mobile silicon as one example. No reasonable person thinks Apple has bad cameras in the new lineup, as another example. More good hardware. Look at secondary markets for Apple devices. Why do they hold value so well? Gee, I wonder.

If you’re not going to be serious, let’s not even talk.

“As expected, analysts suggest Apple will acquire a content creator to address this issue in the future, suggesting such companies like MGM, Lionsgate, Sony, and A24.”

When they say ‘acquire a content creator’ I assume they just mean ‘come to an agreement?’ As this way makes it sound like.. “Oh no! my streaming service has no legacy content. No biggie, I’ll just buy Sony.” ?? 😂

Apple is world class at executing strategy?..... What planet do you live on? I'm no Apple hater but that is hardly the truth. Apple has failed in so many strategies. Not saying more than any other company but no where near what your smoking lol. I hope they succeed but I wouldn't bet any amount of money on it that it does because of their "WORLD CLASS" strategies

Or you can teach your kids that "bad" words exist ( "F-bombs", LOL) and that they should not be used lightly in everyday conversations.

Never understood that obsession with limiting exposure to certain vocabulary. They'll learn the words anyway, probably from other kids in school. It's not as if you are showing them a porn movie, it's only a swear word.

Did you already forget the enormous succes of iTunes Ping?

Glad Apple is willing to do what Netflix seemingly won't: provide mature-themed content without a gluttony of profanity and sexually graphic content that adds nothing to - and frequently detracts from - the story.

what would life be without profanity and sex? your post ist kinda sad!

That’s fine. I agree. Netflix has a cash flow problem. Which is why this isn’t a great thing to get iinto with more content providers entering into it with their massive libraries.

You point out what Apple is good at. I agree. That’s what they need more of. iOS is their baby. More hardware please which leads to more potential services and software.

I’m just not enthusiastic about this one because so much of it is outside Apples control or realm of expertise.

They are going to buy the control and expertise. Apple is good at executing strategy. This won't fail if they want it to succeed. Content is almost all about money and Apple has plenty.

I hope they've solved A LOT of bugs.
I tried a clean installation and I've got:
- previous apps (both free and paid) didn't show up in my profile on the mac app store
- supported SW such as Atom (editor) got a random error message
- iTunes music library was not recognized
- iCloud was not always connected

and so much more ;(

Anyone else?

Once again... Apple is not always good at executing strategy... You would know that, if you weren't probably an after iPhone/iPad Apple customer. Plus I see your signature so I'm pretty sure you will say this thing is amazing and 'magical" all the way to the end even if it did fail. They Have failed numerous times, just like every other company. If Steve was still CEO I might believe it because he had that charisma and knew how to negotiate with media enterprises. Having money to keep throwing at content is not a good strategy in itself either. They can keep throwing money towards turds, but they are still turds. As I said before I hope this doesn't fail, but anyone with half a sense should see that this being popular and sustaining as a for gone conclusion.

Apple is a new company post iPhone.
Disagree, it became a whole different company after but the Mac, the one thing that made, sustained and made them profitable again. We had Steve who was a Computer/electronics geek who made Computers and who wanted to make Consumer Products. Now we have Tim who has a Masters of Business Administration, who inputted numbers into a PC he never knew how to build until Apple started making Consumer Products and made his life so much more "magical" and easy.

Jennifer Aniston is so overrated. She ain't that hot. Her whole career has been trying to hold up this image of the being the hot chick, but it ain't fooling me.

No, it's clear how different the company is after iPhone. It changed the entire landscape of the company. Financials prove that unequivocally.

Love the products, also own the shares.
Loved the products... Still own the Shares since 2002. In no way does that mean I have to be happy with the way Tim is running the business. If Apple really realy wanted to, they could turn the Mac into being just as big of a business as iPhones and iPads but they don't and IMO are stupid for it. With all the money they have, instead of owning beats and no producing media they could and can still can in iProducts and the Mac, they could own the Artistic part with Final Cut Pro, Logic, Aperture, if they had just wanted too and could have a huge dent in enterprise if they would have kept with their server lines. You know how many more would be running Macs, and plus buying more of their services like Apple tv plus and more consumer products like ipads, and iphones if they would have just competitively updated the Mac Mini, the Mac Pro, iMac and MacBook Pro? Trust me you would be a lot happier as a share holder right now then you are. Tim is not doing a good job when it comes to core products which Apple should have never let fall behind in the first place. As long as Tim can check the market share on his iPad, I am sure he is happy though.

iPad was around before Tim was CEO.

If you own share, I can’t understand how you’re not happy with how Cook is running the business. He’s doing an amazing job.

You may not like the products or whatever, but he’s doing a great job managing the business. The business side can’t be questioned.
