hi, I had the original unlimited plan grandfathered until recently when at&t first announced the new unlimited plan I switched.

I have three lines and would like to keep fast speeds so the unlimited choice is not an option for me. I also have 18% FAN discount so my monthly right now is about $165.

My question is this: does it make sense to switch to the unlimited plus plan? It looks like if I do the math correctly it will be $170 / month for three lines with no discounts available. In short it looks like i would gain mobile hotspot for $5 extra a month.

Does it makes sense to switch?

It's worth it only if you have DIRECTV and get an extra $25 off. Otherwise no.

Of course if mobile hotspot is important to you then sure...

Depends if you need the hotspot. I used to have a cellular iPad and paid $10-$15 a month for service. But now I can use hotspot on my phone for my WiFi iPad. So depends on if you think you will get $5 a month use for hotspot.

Apparently, according to the fine print, we now get unlimited text messaging while traveling in 190 countries and unlimited mms in 120 countries. I travel about once a year and spend about $30 on a text plan for while I'm gone. That's a nice savings! I had no idea! It must be a mobile share plan thing. Missed so much sticking to the grandfathered plan.

The North America Roaming and hotspot was reason enough for me to give up my grandfathered plan. Bad enough they were raising the price on it anyway this month. Just for me personally felt like a no brainer.

I did the switch as well, although the difference with my Fan discount isn't that great, I previously had 550 minutes w/rollover as apposed to unlimited everything with this new plan plus tethering.

I actually think the unlimited plus plan would be cheaper for you unless I am missing something.

With an 18% FAN Discount, isnt your current plan $169.20 for 3 lines before taxes and fees? $49.20 ($60 plan less 18%) plus $120 (3 $40 line access fees).

With the unlimited plus, if you sign up with auto pay and get the $10 discount, 3 lines would be $165 per month ($115 plus 3 $20 line access fees less $10 autopay discount).

And that's assuming they don't have any text plans. So you are definitely spot on. It's cheaper.

Yes, that too.

I am currently on the same newly retired unlimited plan with a 19% FAN discount, however I have 4 lines not 3. On my current plan, the 4th line $40 access fee is waived so if I were to switch to the new unlimited plus plan to get the mobile hotspot, my plan before taxes and fees would go up $26.40 per month which I cant justify for the hotspot. I also have DirecTV Now, but I have the $35 Go Big promo plan so the $25 discount doesnt apply.

I ended up switching to the new plan, I use to pay $163.50 under the directv unlimited with 3 lines with the 28% Fan discount, after switching my bill now will be $175, but I will get the auto pay and paperless billing discount which is $10 then an additional $25 off my DIRECTV bill, so I will be saving around $20 a month which isn't bad. I do hope they keep improving these plans as competition keeps heating up.

[doublepost=1488596184][/doublepost]Switch to T-Mobile, 3 lines for $100/month taxes included. Plus $10 credit per line if a line uses less than 2 gb a month. I switched and service is great on Long Island ny
