I was planning on continuing to use mine for a week or two, but would like to switch over to just the Apple Watch at some point.

For me the :apple:Watch just doesn't record enough matrixes, offer enough running data or options. I like knowing things like vertical oscillation, ground contact time, stride length, VO2 Max, lap speeds/averages and so on. The Garmin just offers SO much more that I can't see giving it up for the current gen :apple:Watch.

So I see the :apple:Watch as a backup run recorder, just the way I use my iPhone now. I will just have it on my wrist.

So looking forward to working out with it. The first thing I want to do after receiving the watch this Friday is to take it to the gym :)

Thanks for this, I'm even more stoked now. I like how it'll communicate between different apps. I'm looking forward to tracking everything.

Just curious what sensors does Garmin have that apple watch doesn't? Would it be possible to have all this data? I'm a date person too so I would love to know.

Besides the obvious GPS and almost certainly more accurate HR chest strap sensors, it also has an accelerometer in the chest strap. This allow measurements of ground contact time, vertical oscillation, stride length and more accurate cadence. The combination of watch and chest strap accelerometers makes (non GPS) treadmill pace and distance measurements more accurate. Important also is the algorithms for calculation of distance. I have tried many dozens of iPhone apps over the years and so far none are as accurate as a good GPS watch. As of now the Nike+ is the most accurate app I have found, especially in extreme trail running.

Also the Garmin 620 offers a lots of customization of the data that can be displayed on the watch. Here is the fields available for running and it also has a Bike profile.

Doesn't wahoo fitness make a chest strap HRM with those same sensors? Maybe their will be an app that can take all that data from a sensor along with watch and GPS data from phone and compile it.

I actually use a Nike GPS watch now (the app drains my battery too much for long runs in marathon training)
But I carry my iPhone anyway for music/emergency. I kinda hope that using the watch and Nike app or the watch in general isn't going to drain my battery. I don't want to have to carry my GPS watch along with apple watch just to save battery...

Well looks like I won't be using Nike+ for running. The app description says it can't use the watch's HR monitor at this time.
