new rMB Hard drive failing?

    It seems that I'm having some bad luck with my new rMB :(

    Two times now (not the same day) on the login screen I was unable to login with my password and I had to reset my password to go forward :mad:

    I ran Disk Utility and it said that the volume needed to be repaired/disk utility can't repair this disk…Well, I booted from the Recovery partition (Command+R on startup) and tried repairing the disk, again using Disk Utility, and it said that the disk seemed to be OK!??

    Disk Utility still gives "volume to be repaired / disk utility can't repair this disk".

    I just ran hardware test but it was ok - odd… :(

    Correct me if I'm wrong , but does not this mean that the hard drive is going broke, right?

    Possibly. I'd visit a local Apple Store Genius Bar, and have them take a look. Can't hurt.

    Dunno if apple still does the 14 days DOA period thing (dead on arrival).. basically means that if you have any kind of hardware fault within the first 14 days you can bring it back and you have the right to get a completely new machine rather than going through a repair process. I've done that once before when I received a MBP with to many dead pixels, got a new one no questions asked. Of course I had to wait for ages... It was a CTO...

    Flash memory normally stops cold, no stumbling into home plate like a spinning drive.
    You won't know until you format and reinstall the OS.

    It's very unlikely the SSD has a hardware problem. More likely it just got some corruption. Backup your data, boot into the recovery mode, format the drive and run the disk analysis to make sure everything is OK. Then reinstall the OS, your applications, and your data.
