I just received my rMini and while I love the look and feel as well as the display of the rMini, i'm not as happy with the performance.

Scrolling up and down in settings it stutters, rotating the screen it stutters, rearranging my bookmarks it stutters when moving the bookmarks to a new folder, it stutters. Stuttering is also present when expanding the usage data, the menu drops down while stuttering.

I'm kind of taken back by this because of the A7 and i've turned off parallax to help smooth things out. I also find it strange that my iPad 2 runs a little smoother with iOS 7.0.4

Is this normal for the rMini? Any suggestions to help reduce the stuttering? I'm open for suggestions. :)

Well, animations are not smooth in 7.0.4. The rest you wrote I never heard it before. Have you setup your iPad as new? Have a look at the background multitasking apps. Maybe try and deactivate some? Most people have been having crushing issues with Safari and the OS in general (me too but not with 7.1)

Yes it was setup as new.

iOS 7 is not as smooth as it should be on newer iPads and iPhones (especially iPads). It's the same for everyone. 7.1 fixes almost all of the issues:)

Thanks everyone, got the Mini to speed up a bit and scrolling is now smoother by turning off a few features until iOS 7.1 :)

I see what others were saying about the rMini's color gamut, no biggie for me. It's not as bright as my iPad 2 but again it's good enough. The glass feels a little hollow but that doesn't bother me either. Colors look decent with no pronounced tinting or backlight bleed.

And I got it (16GB White/Silver) for $294 thanks to my free $100 Best Buy gift card and $5 rewards coupon. :D

pretty odd to have so much stuttering, I dont have that issue.. you sure it's not a faulty device?

I hope not. The rMini runs much smoother now with some features turned off. I would be concerned if it not were for others saying iOS 7 is not optimized in it's current form on the iPad and iOS 7.1 addresses a lot of the performance issues.

I think for the most part, people were talking about the crashes from safari and some apps. the last update solved the scrolling stuttering in safari. Settings panel stuttering as much as you say isn't normal and isn't really talked about. I'd go to the Genius bar to have it checked out, so you don't get stuck with something you have to turn tons of features off (everything is on with my iPad and do not get any stuttering in any of the places you mentioned)

Thanks i'll drop by Best Buy and try an exchange. The stuttering I'm referring to is present throughout the UI. It's also noticeable when I pull up the assistive touch menu on the screen. When it stutters it feels like i'm playing a 30FPS video game that's only producing 19FPS.

Try reinstalling the iOS before going back to BB. I find it hard to believe stuttering is a hardware issue.

Yeah i've tried that several times but I tend to agree that it's not a hardware issue but iOS 7 performance related. I plan to stop by and do a comparison between my machine and their floor model.

Well i'm not sure if I do indeed have a defective rMini. I got my first springboard reset, the battery meter tends to go up and down at times. It's going back. :(

Not true. iOS 7 is super smooth on my iphone 5s. So it's just an ipad issue.

7.1 will fix these problems. Both my retina iPad mini and first gen Mini run so much smoother on iOS 7.1 beta 4, so things can only try better. Hold out...

My rMini doesn't stutter scrolling or rotating the screen. Not sure what's up with yours. Only issues that I have is the browser crashing sometimes.

I'm going to get it exchanged at Best Buy. I do like the rMini a lot.

There is no lag on 7.1 so just register your udid and install it, I couldn't wait for 7.1 while 7.0.4 was like a beta on my r mini.

There is lag when rotating in the appstore.

Well I went to BB today and the rMini on display was smooth as butter with all the features turned on. I returned it because now i'm thinking if I should go with 32GB instead of 16GB.

Can you share what features you turned off please?

Enable reduce motion settings -> accessibility -> reduce motion on.

It didn't help my rMini but it does help my iPad 2 a lot. Supposedly iOS 7.1 fixes all of that and i've read some beta testers comment that even if you disable parallax aka reduce motion you still see some of the effect of parallax which is cool.
