Sooo my S4 watch is not even 2 weeks old and I have dozens of scratches on it. I didn't go throwing the watch at the wall or anything, just normal use.

I kept it in my pockets a few times but normally it's on my wrist or in the charger on my night table. I thought Saphire Crystal was supposed to be durable but apparently, it isn't...

the metal watch band is made of the same material and it can scratch the screen bad...its prob what happened. have to be VERY careful with that band.

Did you keep it in your pocket with the Space Black Milanese band? If so, that's what likely caused the scratches. The DLC coating can even scratch the ceramic back... That's what happened to me.

The more you know... kind of tested the theory since I'm returning it now anyway and yes the band adds tons of new microscratches with even a slight rub. Ugh. That's disappointing because it's a really nice band but looks like you need a sports band for it to not cause scratches?

Nah, just the SB Milanese loop. You have to respect that band or it'll tear it up! lol

I love the band and once it's on the wrist you don't have to worry about anything but putting it on is like solving a Zelda puzzle.

Many have no idea that has the potential to scratch the watch because it is DLC Coated. My Best advice I can offer is when you take the watch off your wrist, lay the watch on its side and not flat were the band can come in contact with the watch. You just have to be somewhat more cautious with this specific Band. And I agree with with another member mentioned in a previous thread, Apple should really make a note/disclaimer about this band stating that ‘The Space Black Milanese band can scratch the watch due to the DLC coating.’

No you just got to be careful about letting the band touch the watch. Putting in your pocket was a big mistake.

Oh no, another thread about the dreaded space black milanese loop scratching everything it comes into contact with. I've got my milanese loop attached to a belt sander and used it at the weekend to take the paint off my conservatory.

Buys watch. Puts in pocket. Wonders why DLC coated band scratches watch.

Same posts every year! :)

It’s not incredibly obvious the band is coated in DLC...

In fact, it’s _not_ obvious that the band is DLC coated (Aside from Apple listing the tech specs On their website.) Which most, if not all consumers have no idea what DLC is and that it has the potential to actually scratch the Sapphire display or back of the Apple Watch.

Just a light touch of the watch and band is enough. I got one for Christmas and a few hours later I had my first fine scratches. Although I was extremely careful.

Super annoying and Apple should point this out. Actually they should change the watch!

This is exactly why I have decided that the Milanese loop is just not worth it.

I agree that the look is cool....But honestly, you can have a terrific look with many other bands out there and still not have to become paranoid about what your nice sapphire glass display is coming into contact with. I also agree 100% that Apple should note somewhere in the product description that users should take special care to keep the watch glass away from contact with the band itself. It's the right thing to do.

Try a screen protector. It will cover up the existing scratches and stop new ones appearing.

I agree with everyone saying that Apple should warn about it. At least a notice on the website and in the packaging would be nice.

This is a two-fold situation. Yes, I’m sure Apple is aware that the black Milanese loop can scratch the Apple Watch due to the DLC, however, listing this ‘Disclaimer’ on their website knowingly that it will detract from the sales of the black Milanese loop. That seems counter-productive for something they are trying to sell and make a profit on, when the consumer reads the disclaimer, then they are likely not to make the purchase.

Does this only apply to the space black band or to the silver Milanese band also?

At least yours didn’t scratch from normal use like mine did. Compared to the tank of a screen the S0 was, scratching the S4 from normal use on Day 1 was just disappointing. Returned it for a GPS aluminum and screen protectors, decided to save the $400.

And not just 1, but 2 series 4's, from your other post.

Just occurred to me: when you returned the 2 scratched SS's, what did Apple have to say by way of explanation? Please let us know, because that might shed some light on the issue.

They didn’t really have one, and I even showed him one of the SSes in the store that was all scratched up. Very disappointing but at least I saved a ******** of money, since screen protectors are the same no matter what the glass is, I don’t even want cellular, and as cool as the steel is it isn’t necessary.
