Apple has several new features for its iOS Safari browser in the works, including voice search, translation integration, improved tabs, a "guest mode" option, and new iCloud Keychain functionality.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman rounded up the new features in development in a tweet, while making it clear that there was no guarantee that they would be revealed at this week's WWDC.

Rumors of new Safari features have been trickling out ever since a leaked version of iOS 14 began circulating earlier this year. Notable among those rumors, Apple is said to be adding iCloud Keychain warnings whenever a password is reused as well as the ability for iCloud Keychain to generate two-factor authentication codes.

Elsewhere, a built-in language translation feature would allow users to translate web pages without using a third-party app or service. The translation option is expected to be available for each website that's visited, but an automatic translation feature will also be able to be turned on, similar to Chrome's automatic translation.

Apple is also working to bring full Apple Pencil support to Safari in iPadOS 14. Specifically, Apple may be planning to add full support for ‌Apple Pencil‌ input on websites, which would allow it to be used for drawing and marking up. This feature would be limited to ‌iPadOS‌ 14 as the ‌Apple Pencil‌ does not work on iPhones.

Late on Sunday, Apple leaker L0vetodream suggested a "huge update" for Safari was on the cards, although their wording implied that this was in relation to Safari for macOS.

It's important to note that the leaked version of ‌iOS 14‌ that's been floating around the internet is an early version of the software. Apple's development plans may have changed since then, but we'll hopefully learn more when Apple's WWDC kicks off on Monday morning with a live stream.

Please add 2010 Chrome/Android feature: Safari Push notifications. I think 10 years is enough to implement it.

When it's really HUGE, like world changing, something like never seen before, mind blowing, then it must be something like ... emojis ... or the removal of some buttons to make a cleaner appearance... or merge Safari with iTunes ... ;)

Guest mode would be absolutely brilliant. I would suggest three modes: "Stranger" can use your device as if it was a brand new freshly installed device + access to your WiFi. Possibly the phone. So they can use your device with the built-in apps, but nothing gets stored. "Friend" can use your device with all installed apps, can play your games etc. but without saving any changes and no app downloads. And "shared" isn't really a guest, but a second user with equal rights, but separated from the first user.

SO MUCH THIS!!!

My entire WWDC would be made with just two updates to their web experience which are implementing complete support for Progressive Web Apps including and mostly WebPush in Safari.

I sadly though don’t see that happening this week or maybe ever. Apple was ALL IN on web apps in iOS 2 if I remember correctly but that is ancient history because how can you be ALL IN on web apps in 2020 without something about 30%?

Hilariously Apple was actually for once ahead of the industry winds, by about a decade, because at least in my view, Progressive Web Apps really are the future of apps and the demise (glacially for sure) of walled gardens.

I wish we could get a new Safari for windows. I'd like to use Safari and iCloud keychain, but the fact that I cant use either on my work computer (which is the computer that i'm using 90% of the time) means I don't really bother with them at all. Chrome and LastPass may not be as seamless on iOS, but at least they sync with 100% of the devices I use.

I just want it to work. I switched to Chrome for the time being because so many sites have problems with Safari…

Guest Mode could be a thing, sharing an iPad would be nice.

Guest MOde for login would be great. If guest mode is just in safari, that's fairly useless.

Have to agree. shame apple wont ever bother releasing safari for windows again. It's what keeps me on LastPass, need the flexibility to work on lots of platforms.

I heard something about hand washing reminders? What, are we now toddlers? We really are doomed...

All I want is VP9 and/or AV1 support.
Highly unlikely. The roadblocks aren’t technical.

That rumor is for watchOS, and makes sense there since the Watch is in a position to measure wrist motion. And no, we’re not toddlers (I mean, this website necessarily self-selects for viewers old enough to read, I thought that was obvious), but there’s a disturbing percentage of people who think that a spritz of water on their hands counts as washing, who could clearly benefit from a timer and some instruction. If one can’t learn a lesson that many toddlers know, perhaps one should be treated like a toddler?

All I want for iPadOS Safari is "Inspect Element". On-device web dev tools are MISSING!
