You know, you never see Apple making fun of Samsung phones or the company in their ads...
I guess it's just a good gauge of class.

But they did the whole "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" campaign, which pretty much involved them making fun of PCs. Of course, not aimed at a specific company but still. This advert isn't actually that bad imo. It shows off some fairly decent uses of the otherwise-gimmicky air gesture features and the iPhone bashing is kept a to a minimum (rather than bashing the actual users like they did in the other adverts).

No, Apple only did this with IBM and Microsoft and the entire PC and tablet and smartphone industry...

Sigh

I'm not even interested enough to watch the advert.

Got an iPhone, works seamlessly with all my other iEcosystem. Don't own anything made by Samsung, but might have to check my £50 microwave in case I'm lying ...

Added later...

Microwave is not Samsung, but someone pointed out they make components for the iPhone anyway ...

Might want to check your apple products, legend tells samsung parts were used to build some.

Can't deny the gs4 comes with more features than the iPhone, but somehow I doubt the usability of most of them. On the other hand, since Samsung seems to have a hard time shining on the hardware side, so they obviously point out what they think is better software-wise. Too bad it's still Android underneath.

I think the commercial is focusing way too much on gimmicky features. Most reviews say all those new features are not working 100% or just are plain annoying.

They should of just focused on "hey we have gigantic screen". Oh well.

Good thing Apple has some real competition finally though.

Just like Siri, iCloud, the Maps app and etc, then?

I think it is a good, but a bit long advert. The bit in the middle where the woman clearly holds up an iPhone to try and share the pictures is unnecessary, at least the way they portrayed it.

I think the feature set they showed off (air gesture and TV control) will be enough to get people interested in finding out more.

Android's features are cool, but the question is how productive are they on a daily basis. I prefer OS stability, cellphone material quality, and the ability to sync between my devices than sharing photos with phone touching, answering with hand waving, and turning my TV with my phone (which can be done with any DVR and an app from your cable company).

These are not Android features; these are Samsung features. If the S4 had stock Android this commercial would not be possible. If you were to load stock Android you lose almost every special function. But some want a pure experience which is possible with a unlocked bootloader. But for me just losing the IR remote would keep me glued to a touchwiz rom. This is the issue I have with my Note 2. I can load the latest version of Android but S-Note will not work. Pen still works but not the Samsung apps.
Can't wait until someone figures out how to properly dual boot roms on Android phones.

Very true indeed, that was unnecessary. Yes, air gestures appears to be interesting in practical life. But Macrumors website!! Samsung ads are all over the place, also a bit of google as well. I'm sure the owners of Macrumors secretly loves Samsung a lot!

well i cam use my iPhone 5 to bump photos to my brother in laws S3 using the bump app, i can control all the features of my LG 3D art Tv with Lgs free remote app, control myxbox with the smart glass app, control youtude from my iPhone, use my iPhone as a keyboard, touch pad, plex remote, and iTunes remote and I'm never really dirty enough that there isn't a clean knuckle or something that i can't use to answer a caller text, and siri actually works for me. I've tried s-voice, disaster imo

Wow you can control a Samsung TV with the S4, um hasn't there been a app for that on the iPhone to control some smart TVs?

The S4 and HTC one has built in IR ports. With the iphone you need a external dongle or blue tooth. By this time next year android should have some pretty powerful IR learning apps.

You can control "some" appliances with the iphone but you need more than one app and the manufacturer has to be on board. A huge percentage of appliances still use IR.
I do agree with your S-voice comment; I only use Google now. S-voice has been stripped from my custom Note 2 Rom.

IR is old tech, devices should have BT or use WiFi to communicate. I don't see Apple adding IR now.

Wouldn't Samsung be cooler if they just ignored Apple all together? I mean its not like Samsung is Mac and Apple is PC in terms of marketshare.

Are there any iPhone or iPad commercials that directly criticize a competitor?

Exactly; old and cheap tech that is still used in a vast majority of appliances. You "should" use BT or wifi but tell that to the many people not willing to upgrade or to the manufacturers of these devices. My $1000 projector still uses IR. I haven't seen budget home theater projectors use BT or wifi. And yes; Apple will never include a IR receiver.

Difference is what was the market share of Mac vs PC? If Samsung was some scrappy upstart or had really low market share I could maybe understand them poking fun at a competitor this way. But they're not. They sell more phones than any other company in the world. So wouldn't it make sense for them to just ignore Apple all together?

The responses to his ad are funny! Some people are either projecting and/or have some other serious issues.

How is it insulting customers to state that another phone doesn't have a feature. Are some people so wound up because of their previous ad of hipsters waiting in line who were made to look silly for doing so?

This ad alone doesn't make fun of customers of any phone. It positions the S4 as having features other phones (not just he iPhone) doesn't. End of story.

If you - or others - feel that's insulting to you (or others) - all I can say is wow.

Not bothered about the commercial but I like some of the features they showed off like swipe to answer.

I've noticed a lot of people walking around with these Galaxy phones over the past year or so. I just hope Apple have a bigger screen option iPhone 6 in the works for next year.

I guess it's just a good gauge of class.

And the entire buying public buys products not because they are the best for their needs, but instead, because they think that one or another of the megacorporations who make them have "class".

Keep it classy, Apple! That is all that is necessary in order to dominate!
