Awesome!

I love SimCity and have been hoping for a newer version for some time. Now I don't have to consider, reconsider, and then decide not to buy the other Sims games when I see them on shelves.

A new Sim City game is welcomed. Online connection always required is not. Additionally in a few years if they decide they are not making enough money on the venture, they can take down the servers at any time and all your hard work building things will have gone up in smoke unlike the earlier Sim City games which you can still play even today!

Disappointing.

I'm really excited for this. Arcologies were the coolest thing in SimCity 2000. I really hop they don't put too much of an emphasis on disasters and crisises. I just like the customization and building component. The online should be interesting. I hope they don't **** it up like they did with the past few.

Do people still play computer games? I thought people play console games now.

Shoot .. and I thought I was the weird one to think why people still play games on a 6 years outdated console.

See the difference, a $400 crap PC towers performs games more well than PS3/Xbox nowadays. It's that huge.

Sim City 2000 was my life!!

Same here. I liked the original, but I absolutely loved SimCity 2000. Since the release of SC 2000 I've tried to find another city sim that could surpass my experience with SC 2000, but so far none have, including SimCity 3000 and SC4.

I just hope it's available on Steam because I don't want to join EA's Origin service and would prefer a digital download.

This is good news. I just got back into SC4 on my desktop again and it's brought back good memories. Looking forward to playing it on my Mac.

I can never make money quick enough to sustain my city long term. I guess I just am a fan of aggressive expansion and it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong??

I will look at this game when it comes out.

Can. Not. Wait!!

But, I'd rather buy it from the Mac App store or Steam. The last thing I want to do I setup yet another account.

Great News, really! :)

I played Sim City 3000 World Edition a lot when I was a kid.
I wonder what the system requirements are going to be.

Doubt if my late 2008 Unibody MacBook can handle the game.

And I wonder if they release it like steam releases some games,
Buy once, and play on Mac or PC...

(probably not...)

Wonderful news. I used to be damn good at playing SimCity 2000, but that was almost two decades ago (unbelievable!). I even remember the cheat code to get 500 000: porntipsguzzardo. :D

I recall that my city was always bankrupt after a few years...
But then there was this cheat code 'call cousin Vinnie' which causes a guy to appear and give you either a castle or a big sum of money...

I started playing Sim City way back to it's original version through SimCity 4. Something tells me this probably won't run on my 2008 Macbook Pro by the time it comes out. The graphics and animations look amazing though.

If Origin is required for the Mac version, then it's a non-starter.

I would pay for the game in a store, take it home, never open it, and then download a cracked version, just to avoid installing Origin.

The graphics and simulation look great. I can't wait to try it. I just wish it was iOS. Everything I do these days is on iOS.

I don't think you appreciate the processing differences between a modern computer and even the most powerful iPad/tablet.

An iPad would have serious trouble running a full version of SimCity 4. If you are familiar with that game, and have seen what they had to strip out in order to get their iPad Sim City Deluxe HD game running, you know what I mean. It's fun, and can certainly scratch that city-building fix, but in no way the "full" Sim City 4 experience. Now consider that we're talking about a ~10 year old game.

It used to be, when you bought something, you owned it. You buy a book. Read it. Once, twice, or daily for the rest of your life. It's yours. Or burn it. Give it away. Use it to hold up a piece of furniture with a broken foot. Whatever, it's yours.

Now it seems more and more that your hard-earned money is being spent on media portals (devices to get the content), but the content itself is 'rented'. Limited installs, limited number of devices, no re-sale options, inability to use on newer equipment, etc.

I really don't like where we're going with all of this. :(

All their computer games are Origin exclusives now.

All your game are belong to them.

I'm honestly glad to see more games coming to the mac from EA. Hopefully this one will be better than the Societies crap that I bought a few years back. I still liked Sim city 2k+3k, 4 was ok but idk.

People still play SimCity? I tought things evolved to Age of Empires, Battlegrounds, Warcraft

.

You owned the physical container (a book), not the contents. You never legally could detach the contents from the physical book and do whatever you wanted with the contents.

For much content today, there is no physical container. That's your big change. I realize this is confusing if you are used to one way. But 50 years from now, people won't get why today's medievals had trouble absorbing this simple distinction between container and content.

It's too bad that EA isn't partnering with Steam anymore, because I would do the digital download through Steam since I have an account with them already. As others have said, I don't want yet another digital download service to sign up for. With that said, I will be ordering the disc version of the game.

I'm not much of a game player anymore, but I am really excited for this game since I've wanted a new version to play for a long time.

I much preferred the feel of Sim City when Maxis owned and distributed it, before EA gobbled them up. I'll still probably pick this up, though. I am NOT a fan of being forced to use Origin. Give me a physical copy any day over that nonsense. I'd be happy with an App Store purchase, though as others have stated.

Lots of tax base with residential zones paired with easy access to commercial and light industrial to get things going. Maybe a loan or two here and there, careful spending too much on useless stuff like rail roads until the city actually *needs* it. Maybe not the best formula, but it worked for me pretty well.

Origin only? Shame - I'll never buy it or play it.

Origin is never touching any computer I own.

Same here! As was stated earlier, it would be cool if this SimCity is more like the 2000 version, and less like The Sims. I want to build my city just to turn on all the disasters and try and save it ! Along with random parades because I am such a good mayor!
