I think it's because no other remotes any of us have ever had were so noisy.

It....sucks..

Sounds like I'll have something to look forward to if I keep my 4 preordered ATVs that haven't yet shipped from Costco.

Turning on the TV (CLICK)

The volume is probably a little low (CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK)

Guess I'll give the Netflix app a shot (three over and two down) (CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK)

Let's do this thing! (CLICK)

Man, the content on Netflix really isn't what it used to be. Might be looking for a while! (CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK (for who knows how long)

Ah, this movie will work! (CLICK CLICK)

Whoops, the volume is a little too loud! (CLICK CLICK)

Etc etc.

Sigh

But what impact on anything does it have? I’m not having a go I just don’t understand why it would matter.

It's annoying -- one does a LOT of clicking on a tv remote, and to have the remote itself make an audible noise on every click, no matter how soft you press -- sucks...

All of this is a major major first world problem -- but here we are on an forum about Apple stuff, so it's ok to have an axe to grind on this in my view.

I have about 5 remotes in my house now for various things (and have had dozens over the years) and literally none of them have made "click" noises on every press -- most are totally silent due to rubber buttons with soft actuation.

Apple is the outlier here - and not in a good way.

Considering the first Siri remote is silent when pressing soft - I think Apple cheaped out on a component swap or something. Not a good look for a SIXTY DOLLAR remote - lol!

The remote is by far the biggest reason most people are upgrading, so ANY regression in experience matters.

BTW, my kid said to me “that remote sounds like you’re training raptors with it”. I had no idea what she meant so she made me this picture.

Now I hear raptors every time I speed click through Netflix. :D

Wow, glad I read this. Noisy and clicky sounds is quite surprising.

It's possible it won't bother you, but believe those of us saying it's definitely "a thing".

Me?
I knew I'd hate it and be bothered with it - daily - within about 10 mins of using it ...
... and the writing was on the wall (returns)

Do not expect that. This is clearly on purpose as many people in focus groups want an audio feedback so they know the button was pressed and sent a signal. Don’t get me started on focus groups…

I have a Samsung TV and sound bar. Using the Samsung remote, I can do everything with this remote in Apple TV so the Apple remote never gets used and is tucked away somewhere collecting dust. Oh, and by the way the Samsung remote doesn’t click.

I don’t even notice any clicking with mine. But I’m not real wrapped up in micro-analysis of first world toys.

What are you doing on this website then?
All we do is micro analyze first world toys!
:D
You make a good point! I understand people have two points of view - "What is wrong with this product?" versus "What can I do with this product." ;) But without over thinking and hyper criticism we wouldn't have "social media influencers". 😁 Actually, I enjoy checking in here to get ideas. I just added one of those cheap covers/cases for my new ATV4k remote. Those who are bothered by the clicking might find that an improvement.

I like the remote and it has worked well on all my TVs including the one with the Denon receiver in between the ATV and the TV. Last night however on the TVOS 15 beta something strange started happening where the bluetooth connection popped on and off multiple times and then it finally was not connected. Anybody notice this and is this a low battery power behavior. I haven't had it that long. If so how often have people been charging their remotes? I may need to get another lightning charging cable if so.

Picked my new Apple TV up today and I see complaints about the remote being noisy when clicking and although it is slightly more noticeable than the previous version it is no where near the problem some are making it out to be. I think I saw one person said they returned the Appe Tv because the remote was too loud, that is ridiculous LOL.

I returned the remotes I'd bought due to it
Sorry you think it's ridiculous

You know what else is ridiculous?
$59 just for a remote

There is no noticeable difference in click sounds between the old an new remote, there just isn't

I could not disagree more

I have 6 of the older remotes and years of experience with them, and in side by side testing it was literally night and day.

There was no way, at all, to click the buttons on the new Siri Remote and not have it always be noticeably louder than any/all of my first gen Siri remotes.

I liked the previous remote just fine but I would say this is slightly better, I would prefer the Siri button on the front but not that big a deal

It sounds like a computer mouse. If an Apple Watch made sounds like that when you pressed it’s buttons it would be awful. No, it’s not the worst thing in the world but it is undesirable for most people and a clear mark in the “cons” column when comparing it to the old remote.

I also think the Siri button requires too much hand dancing and isn’t equally accessible when the remote is different hands.

Overall I think it’s an improvement but mostly for accessibility. My vision-impaired parent who had a lot of trouble with the old remote was bouncing like a kid when they realized how much more they could now accomplish.

So you are willing to give up on Siri/Volume/Power buttons because of a click sound and go to multiple remotes. Are you stress clicking?

The standard functionality (not accessibility related) added in the 2nd generation remote is only a Mute/Unmute button. On the 1st generation remote there are volume buttons, a Siri button, and the “power” function is identical to Sleep which you access by holding the TV button. If you have multiple devices hooked to your TV you probably don’t use CEC because it sucks, so multiple remotes are always going to be in your life.

Doesn’t seem like they are giving up much. 🤷‍♂️

I have a receiver on my main TV and everything turns off fine. I can't think of a reason for a multiple remote and the WAF wins as well.
