Being left-handed, I appreciate the location of the whiteboard; however, I can see that positioning being a PITA for the majority of the population.

Users can choose a left or right setup, and opt to remove any of the available features like the ventilation holes, dry erase board, display docks, mousepad, or drink holder.

I'm left handed. That desk is useless.

Might be a little less useless if you read the OP.;)

I actually went to the website and the only thing I saw as being reconfigurable for left vs. right was the position of the mousepad. Perhaps it's implied that this also shifts the location of the whiteboard. Problem is that if you shift the mousepad to make room for the whiteboard on the right, then you've got left-handed mouse location. So you're screwed either way. Perhaps you saw something different, but this was my take.

Yeah I just went there to see what you meant. You're right. Unless the whiteboard can be placed above the mouse (I didn't see where it could be) it would cause ergonomic issues with the cross body writing for a right handed person. Depending on how much use the whiteboard gets, that would become annoying pretty quickly.

Some people seem deeply offended by this desk :s

I think it's because it's a pretentious and imho, ugly piece of crap.

But this goes beyond aesthetics.

It's a design solving a problem where none existed.
And it's not a matter of building a better mousetrap, because the 'benefits' simply cancel out and present new problems.

if you had read the article you would've known that you can order it in any configuration you'd like. that means if you don't want holes you don't get holes.
some people might want them or need them. don't be so narrow-minded.

people would say the same thing about macs and iOS devices.

yeah... there's this thing called individuality? you know. we don't all think the same as you. (thankfully)

There's individuality... and then there's common opinion. This thing is kind of ugly and overpriced. If you did want or need something like this and are on a budget, I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to replicate this by buying an inexpensive desk and office supplies from Target or Ikea, renting some hardware from Home Depot and drilling out the holes on your own. Or asking a saavy friend to do it for you.

I would just keep dropping stuff through the holes.. Anyway doesn't the air on a MacBook circulate through the keyboard, back and on the retinas the sides? What's the point of having the bottom with loads of space when its just a metal plate? Plus the MacBook is elevated as much as it needs to be already... Ugh

Because that's one of the benefits of the aluminum design? Aluminum disperses heat...

The holes aren't necessary but the dozen macbook pro's I've own over the last few years have ran hot depending on what I was doing.

Whiteboard as work surface makes no sense. You'll wipe out your work and get pen residue everywhere if you absent-mindedly sit or lean on your desk. No more head-down napping at your desk either.

Fixed slot for iphone provides no "give" to protect the device. Say someone carelessly drops a large object/package/briefcase onto your desk and it slides towards the iPhone and hits it. The iphone is a sitting duck. It can't move out of harms way like a regular dock would.

The ventilation holes are needlessly large and just look silly. I can see people getting their fingers stuck in them and painfully twisted.
