Say hello to the Sonos Play – a new unannounced portable speaker that appears to have been accidentally leaked on the Canadian Best Buy site.

Priced at CAD $399.99, the speaker looks a lot like a smaller version of the Sonos Move 2, and features Wi-Fi for multi-room setups of up to 32 speakers, AirPlay 2 support, and Bluetooth 5.3. There's also an aux-in for connecting record players and other equipment. Courtesy of the Redditor who spotted the listing, here's the blurb:
Take quality sound wherever you go with the Sonos Play Bluetooth wireless speaker. Its compact design fits easily in your hand, while automatic Trueplay tuning optimizes audio for any environment. Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth let you stream high‑quality audio from different devices and sources. Up to 24 hours of battery life avoids the need for frequent recharging.
The speaker listing has since been pulled from the Best Buy site, but it shouldn't be long before it's officially announced, given the release date was stated as March 31, 2026.

Sonos is back to profit though so I guess that sales are OK even at Sonos prices - not that this product has launched yet but Sonos Move 2 for instance is $649 (Canadian).

There were rumours a few years ago that Apple was looking to buy Sonos. Obviously nothing came of that, or the rumours were totally false, but I do sometimes wonder whether that was a lost opportunity for Apple and whether Apple is right to seemingly be so scared of going any higher-end than it already has in terms of audio quality.

A Sonos acquisition could have been a great way to buy in the expertise to build-out Apple's audio offerings with Soundbars, true surround sound, subwoofers, higher-end HomePods and probably add a lot of extra audio expertise into the teams working on successors for the existing products.

$400 for just another noisy boomy wireless speaker, really ? 🥱

I stopped all this and "invested" in real (and very affordable) "audiophile" equipment. And I rediscovered music 😍, after years of noise.

I guess Sonos is sticking with it's small, mid, large product approach in each category

Soundbars: Ray, Beam, Arc
Portables: Roam, Play, Move
Speakers: Era 100, Era 300, Five
Yep, in marketing this is called the "Good, Better, Best" strategy.

400 dollars for a bluetooth speaker. LOL
I use my Sonos Move 2 stereo pair in bluetooth mode about 0% of the time. The wireless range reaches outside without any issues and there isn't much else on the market that can create a stereo pair out of portable speakers. On a side note, Sonos regularly offers 30% off upgrade deals.

None of the Sonos speakers are noisy or boomy. There is no reason to think this one will be either. They aren't just "wireless" speakers either. I always chuckle when I read comments like yours because it's clear you have no idea whats inside that "just another wireless speaker" or how the Sonos system works.

Very costly. Won’t be buying one. Wonder whether it will be released in other colors too. Should know in the coming weeks.

I chuckle too because I have 1 Sonos Beam, 1 Sonos Arc Ultra, and 2 Era 100.

So I think I know very precisely what I'm talking bout.

Sonos speakers are somehow decent and convenient for a basic and low profile "home theater".

But for MUSIC, real music, they totally suck. They will be put to shame by a budget audiophile system. The only "plus" for Sonos is the convenience of wireless.

As far as I'm concerned, I trust my ears.

I'm sure you do. Everyone who makes claims like yours (and uses the word "audiophile") says their ears are great. 😂 But you don't talk like you own 4 Sonos products. Era 100 is a small bookshelf speaker. Sounds very good for what it is, a very high quality smart speaker. Music sounds fine. They are not what anyone would call an "audiophile" system so to compare it to higher quality components is ridiculous. "Audiophile" is not why someone is buying Era 100s.
