New Apple Watch SE Cellular, and I have the latest Spotify app on the AW that allows me to choose my Apple Watch as a device, but when I choose the watch, it changes to a flashing watch symbol and if I tap it, it says "Connecting..." under "Play on a device".

Am I doing something wrong or is the app just plain buggy?

Of course, it works as a Spotify remote to play on my iPhone, but not in the capacity of acting standalone on my cellular AW SE.

Don't forget it is a beta. Remove the app from the AW and try again.
I know it *was* beta...is it still beta?

I did uninstall and reinstall a few times. Same outcome.

Can I ask you...if your headphones are paired on your iPhone AND on the Apple Watch, and you turn them on, do they connect to both the iPhone and AW or how do you choose (on your AW) the headphones when you want to play from the AW? Do you have to go into BT and manually connect to your headphones?

You need to connect your headphones to the device you want to use them with. Settings on the AW—>Bluetooth—>select device

Or Control Centre—>Airplay—>select headphones

I understand that. My point was if the headphones already exist on iPhone AND AW. You want to play spotify on your AW directly. You turn on your headphones, and they connect to your iPhone first. Do you have to manually select your headphones on your AW every time if they've connected to your iPhone first?

In theory, if your phone is close, that would be the preferred device to stream from, since it's got more battery reserve, and it's easier to charge while using.

Try putting your phone in airplane mode to test it out.

And yes, I understand if you're about to leave the house with just your watch, your phone is probably still in range, so you should be able to do it with the phone close.

if you've got AirPods/beats they should auto switch, but I'm not sure how exactly that works, or if it's working properly yet.

I just want to go walk without my phone and start streaming from my watch to BT headphones without hassle.

I did discover that removing Spotify from my watch and iPhone, then putting it back on iPhone and back on the watch, that it allowed me to stream from the watch and asked me what BT device to stream to.

So it seems that the difference was I removed the app from my iPhone this time.
