I bought a 240GB Mercury Electra 3G SSD from OWC. It installed correctly but it doesn't sit snug in position. It moves around. When I booted up with my Leopard DVD, I couldn't select a disk to install it on.

I don't think anything is wrong with any cables because my original HHD works fine... although it fits snuggly in position. Would the looseness of the SSD be the issue here?

I noticed rubber pads and screws on the right side of my HHD. Should I remove them and put them onto the SSD?

I am using a MacBook Pro 3,1

It should sit tight, if you have fastened all screws correctly.
And have you opened Disk Utility in the installer to verify it is not recognised? If it is recognised, it needs to be formatted:

Thanks for the link! I'll give this a try later today. I didn't even think to try the Disk Utility in the installer.

I'm almost certain that those rubber pads are what keep the hard drive from moving around. I'll try to remove them from the HDD and apply them to the SSD.

I installed a SSD onto my laptop as well, you have to remove those and add them to the SSD drive to secure it in place.
