So it only having one thunderbolt port it looks like these displays can't be chained together? This also seems like a weird choice to have to plug the video cable in to the far side of the monitor, I would have expected it to come out from the centre, a lot cleaner...

No you cannot chain them together because there is only one Thunderbolt input port and no output port to enable TB passthrough.

And the center plug is for power, which is why the TB port is to the left along with the three USB-C ports to connect USB peripherals to the display.

Well you can physically connect a second Mac Studio Display to the first with a USB-C cable, but I am not sure it will send a video signal from the first to the second and if it does, I am not sure it would be at 5K@60Hz or it would be 4K@60Hz.

The Studio Display does not have a second downstream Thunderbolt port.

A Thunderbolt 3 stream can carry two DisplayPort signals, both of which might be used to run the Studio Display at 5K 60 Hz 10bpc if the display acts like two 2560×2880 tiles like the LG UltraFine 5K does.

I'm getting two and running them off my MacBook Pro 14" (m1 Pro Max). I'm assuming I have to plug in both directly to my laptop and not chain them?

what's your delivery date? Please comment on how dual monitors work. I have an intel Mac for work, but I'm sure I can still run two monitors from it.

Work ordered them, I think first week of April but not sure. I'll definitely report once I know!

I have two ordered and I too have been curious about how these would connect, as I vaguely recall some former Apple displays getting chained together (maybe it was the Thundebolt display?). In any case, sounds like they will need to be connected to their own port which is fine.

Does anyone have any insight into how the webcam(s) and audio system will work in a situation with two monitors?

Yes you will likely want to connect each to their own dedicated TB4 port for the best quality. I would expect you cannot pair the webcams, so you would pick a primary. Audio might work across displays (especially Spatial Audio), but I am going to hazard a guess it too will be one where you pick which monitor you want to hear sound out of.
