Is it common for mac apps (iPhoto, Safari, System Preferences) to "hang" and quit responding? I've had my MBP for <1 day and it seems like I've had to force-quit all of those functions multiple times since they would stop responding. In System Preferences, I would see a spinning color wheel cursor that would swich to the normal arrow cursor when i clicked outside the System Preferences window and then I could open the Finder menu to force-quit System Preferences but that's the only way that I can get SP to close. I'm a Mac noob (OK, I used a IIGS in 3rd grade but that was ~22 years ago) and I R confused.😱

It can sometimes when loading something intensive and also depends on what else you're doing. If you're running something that takes a lot of processor or a lot of RAM it can make them beachball.
