I recently updated my iPhone 4s to iOS 5.1. Since the update, I've encountered a new problem where if I am in a text message conversation window and the person with whom I am texting in that window sends a new message, it does not populate in that window. I get the notification (sound or vibrate), the "Messages" back arrow in the top left adds the "(1)" and when I go back to my messages list, that current chat with the new message is there at the top but I have to go back to my chat list to see new messages even though the new message(s) are in the current chat window.

This happens both with iMessage conversations and old-school SMS conversations and happens both in group messages and one-on-one message conversations.

Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone solved this issue?

Thanks.

Yeah this happens to me too. I think its just iMessage though since regular SMS works fine.
I tried disable and enable imessage and fail

Maybe apple's servers are flooded?

edit: retested it again-crap happening on sms as well

Whew - thought it might just be me.

I've confirmed this is occurring both with SMS and iMessage messages.

yeah. rather disappointed in this considering it's apple and SMS/iMessage is big deal. Would have thought they'd test these things a bit better.

I am having this same issue. It is really quite a PITA. Has anyone figured this out, or is Apple even aware of this problem?

Same problem

I'm on iOS 5.1.1 with an iPhone 4S, and I also have this problem.

I say, take it to your Apple Store and make a Genius Bar appointment about it, ask them to fix it. They'll tell you they can't but at least they'll notice how many people have the problem.

This has been happening to me too. It's a pain that you have to go back then back in to see the new message. Also I often think someone else has sent a message when it is the same person I am already messaging.

Plus the Messaging app just freezes the iPhone for seconds at a time. Couldn't even answer the phone for an important call today due to that. I "think" this started when I first used the beta Messages app on my mac.

I'm installing iOS 6.0 beta now and am hoping it clears up the iMessage issues.
