I recently found a new ATV on ebay at a good price and couldnt resist. It should be waiting for me when I get home today, hopefully. Anyway, I currently use my Xbox360 connected to a 500GB external drive loaded with .avi movies. I was going to go through the tedious task of converting everything but I started thinking...I really want to use the iPhone remote app to control it which is actually my main reason for wanting to covert everything and get everything synced legitimately. So my questions are...
1) If I hack the ATV just to accept an external HD and install Perian can I still use the remote app to control it?
2) The answer to #1 is probably no so my next question is, if I hack it to install Perian only and get iTunes on my MacBook Pro to read the .avi movies, can I stream them to the ATV and still use the iPhone remote app?
