But its best if you don't have any AV programs. The performance of the computer really goes down. Besides, there are no viruses for the mac...yet

That's 100% true man. I have a PC and that thing is a freakin snail from all the AV on there. And guess what?... IT STILL GOT 5 TROJANS!!! Macs are serious AV's all on there own lol. There animals and everyone knows it. I suppose ClamX AV would be worth the download time

clamav does not do "live scanning", and the daemon hardly takes any memory.

The only performance decrease is when you run an actual scan.

Well my brother nor I no Howw to check what file were downloading off limewire, help?

It's not so much checking, it's more about using common sense.

If the file size or extension is largely different to what you expect, for example you want to download a picture, which would normally be .jpg but it's .zip, then it's probably best to leave it alone.

You can't exactly check the file beforehand, only after you have it really.

i dont use any, but i did use norton for a while and it was pretty good, didnt seem to slow macbook down or anything, also tried clamxav but prob not as good as norton. theres that new one as well...http://www.iantivirus.com/ looks promising, free as well. havnt tried it tho.

i use cabos, its the same as frostwire really, its pretty obvious which files are fake. but the good thing is that even if u accidentally download a fake file it wont do anything, altho its pretty annoying when you download an mp3 and its president clinton lol not the song u wanted

Hm?

Going by the picture, you had it search the music bit. Some people don't think of that and just search general files, which ends up giving .zip files and all sorts, when you're looking for music.

That's where common sense comes in. If you know what you're looking for, you'll be fine.

Which also ties in to not being able to check files before you download them - if you use a bit of common sense, you wouldn't need to.

I have to admit I'm confused, I thought my previous post was pretty self-explanatory in its context.

I didn't use anything for ages and still don't really - have ClamXav which gets run when I am bored. Don't think anything is needed really. Might be wrong though so don't shout me down!

I think the point of his post is you can check the file type, and size before you download them. (unless i'm missing something too)

Ah.

I thought they meant checking whether the file was a virus or not before downloading it.

That's what I was referring to. :)
