hi, i'm at college and just got a mac - but I don't know how to view other computers on the school network. my roommate who has vista can see everyone who is on the network, but i don't know where to go to on my mac to see that. if you could help me that would be great.

if you still can't see anything under shared, go to system preferences--> security --> firewall, and allow all incoming connections.

i know firewalls are wonderful, but sometimes they keep you from viewing certain computers on a shared network. i'm not saying to permanently allow everything, just do it long enough to see if that's the problem, provided there is one.
