Welcome to the Mac community! You're in for a great experience with your MacBook Pro; I love mine.

For photo editing and the like, I would try Aperture, which is made by Apple. Or Adobe Lightroom. They are pretty similar in function, although I've read that Lightroom is a little more powerful.

Or you can always use plain old Photoshop.

And one of my favorite apps of all time is Delicious Library. It is a great app for organizing your movies, cds, and books. A new version is coming this month (hopefully) and should prove to be even better. Check it out here.

A card reader for my photos? No, I just plug my camera into my MBP via USB and import them into iPhoto.

If you google for "top 10 mac applications", you'll get like 100 people's opinion of essential Mac applications. It's a cool way to get to know your Mac. :)

    Hi!

If you are a Safari user, I suggest, you get the great SafariStand plugin. I posted a tutorial on installing and setting it up over at Mac Kindergarten.
