New to Mac - Why can't I log on to Steam!?!

My new MBP has arrived today and first thing looked to install Steam so I could run some games like TF2 / L4D from my account.

I've tried logging on many times and I keep getting

Login to steam failed. Either the specified account does not exist or the password was wrong. Please check your username and password and try again.


I've tried again many times.
I've booted my Win7 laptop where I originally had Steam and can logon without a single problem
I've reset my password and tried again on the macbook
I have tried every username and password combination possible


I'm scratching my brains out here - I've got a large steam collection and will not re-purchase this again. Can anyone advise how this can be sorted?

Just to clarify - my account is not hijacked, I can access it fine from my windows laptop running next to me.
 
@jk6959, before logging into Steam, update the client. The download from the Steam website is very old and an update is necessary for it to function..
 
Edit: Sixth time's the charm, finally logged into Steam. Please count this as closed.
 
The Retrieve A Lost Account button always worked for me when I lost my password. Click it, choose "I don't know my account name" and see if you have a retail package with a product code on it maybe? You probably need access to your old email though...

Maybe it's case sensitive or something...

I have that problem too except it worked for me on my Macbook pro before but now it just doesn't want to log in, but it logs in fine on the website. Please help someone?
