I don't have an SSD in my current MBP. If I did I probably wouldn't even bother shopping for a new one. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The most impressive thing i find about the newer MacBooks is the battery life.

I can regularly get 10+ hours out of my 13" Retina MBP. Adding an SSD to an old macbook won't get you anywhere near that.

First impressions: excellent.

The only slight negative I have is the backlighting. It isn't an issue at all for myself, because it's a feature I seldom if ever use anyway, but the reviews are correct - it is uneven, and I find that quite strange for an Apple product. Still, first gen device and all that.

Loving the keyboard. I don't think I ever want to go back to the spongy efforts with more travel. This thing is superb!

Smart choice. The rMB is absolutely awesome.

I have both a 15" rMBP and the 12" - the 12" has become my favorite mac laptop I've owned (and I've owned quite a few..). I've heard of numerous other IT people using it successfully as well, and I'm an (albeit beginning) comp sci. student, using one without issues.
