Hi

im new to macs we have a macbook air, whats the most popular media player everyone uses for avi,mkv and mp4 files?

also im looking to use this to watch shows and movies at times and i was looking for a remote control hardware or app that will let me control it

but a few things one the remote has to work with whatever media application im using,if its app it has to be android which might be hard for you guys to recommend me, and whether its hardware or app i want to be able to see my file list from the remote application or physical remote

any help would be greatly appreciated

thank you

A lot of Mac users like the video player VLC. It is free.

I second VLC.

Just make sure to only download from the official source as Weaselboy linked to. As with any OS, it's critical for your Mac's security to ONLY download software from with 1) the Apple App Store, or 2) the official source/website of the software application you are downloading. There are unfortunately MANY bogus links out there to VLC knockoffs or VLC wrapped in crapware installers.
