So i got a macbook for christmas and i'm totally new to macs! It should be coming in the mail tomorrow and obviously ill probably spend the whole day on it, so i was just wondering if there are any cool programs i just download or settings i should change or anything of the sort. It's a black one, 2.0 ghz, 2gb ram and 250gb hdd. I'll mainly be using it to record some bedroom music and do some graphic design.

thanks!

i have the lightsaber thing. i sent it to a friend with a macbook. and, i am extremely ashamed to tell you that we took them both to school and had a macbook lightsaber fight

"Hold shift while minimizing or opening dashboard or using expose for a SLOWMO!"

Even better: open Terminal and type 'KillAll Dock" but don't hit ENTER. Then use the SLOWMO minimize feature, then, mid-process, hit ENTER. You now have a cool window mutation than you can play with. Works great with a website that can scroll. Close, or re-minimize to undo.

First thing to do is invest in the Applecare protection plan. You can buy it off Ebay for a very good price. Don't allow anyone here to tell you that you don't need it. If and when you have issues it will be your responsibility to pay for repairs when your warranty expires.

I think there is a thread about this already.

Anyways, you can register your Macbook through the Apple website and get Maclife or Macworld digitally delivered to you, or a physical copy to your home.

:D

WAAAAH!!! I use utorrent on windows but now i am going to have to try it on mac! Have you tried transmission btw?

Yes. I went from uTorrent (on windows) to Transmission (on OS X) to uTorrent for Mac. I like it more than Transmission due to the ability to encrypt traffic as well as the familiar interface. YMMV.

if you do music get rid of GarageBand and get Logic Pro 8 :)
next, get photoshop.

cheers

Don't listen to this guy, you have a full year to buy this if you so desire. It's not necessary, and for many people the statute of their country will protect them from common defects found in Apple's computers.
