Bought a very cheap series 1 which is as good as new however I can't get it to pair to any of my phones 6s ( 14.7 ) and 11/12 pro max iOS 15 b3.

all devices see the watch , try to connect , connect then "an update in required" which then goes to START AGAIN/CANCEL in which I then start again. This then unpairs and the fiasco starts again.

Is it true after googling I need a device on iOS 13 to update the watch to work on 14 and over ? I know 13 has been signed off as ive tried on the old 6s.

Is there a work around for this ?

I don’t think the  watch 1 supports the latest version of the watchOS which is what you need to pair a watch against the latest version of iOS.

Also, you can’t downgrade iOS versions once Apple stops signing them.

@akash.nu is correct. Watch S1 isn't compatible with watchOS 7.

Nope, watchOS 6 also works fine with iOS14. Had two S2 watches paired to my iPhone 11 PM without problems....

The sister-in-law has an old iPhone 6 she will let me use. that is running iOS 13. whatever as apple stooped it at 13 for that model. I am seeing even on apples own forum that folks who have just bought a S3/5/6 watch have the same issues right out of the box.

Like this is a used Apple Watch and it could have anything on it operating system wise 4 to 6 ???

The following doesn't work :

resetting iPhone network - doesn't work
switching from wifi to cellular - doesn't work
switching from 5ghtz to 2.4 - doesn't work
hard reset phone/watch - doesn't work
Hours of trying to connect - doesn't work

It seems only real trick is an old iPhone 5/5s/5c/6 with ios13 to resolve this ,I'll report back Saturday when she lets me use hers ;)

well I got the iPhone 6 on iOS 12 and paired it to the 6 which had a pop up on the watch app on the phone informing me the phone required an update ???? Soooooo while the 6 had that screen up I paired by 12 pro max to the watch and ran the watch app and paired it with that ....... the series 1 is now updating !!!! I think that this a bug with the watch app in IOS as you get a quick split second pop up on the iPhone 6s , 11 & 12 but not enough time to read it. It's the iPhone needs updating message even though all the iOS 14/15 are all maxed out bang up to date.
