New U2 iPod Released

Hoped to get back on to the discussion of iPods. Admittedly, an inflammatory comment that I sort of regret. Roots of the remark might be 2 years with a college roommate that listened to the Dead and nothing else. I warmed up to some Bob Weir stuff but not the band in general. I was always a MAJOR Led Zeppelin fan so I guess we were destined to clash.
Getting ready to buy my 7th iPod. Don't have a "video" iPod as yet. Any word on a change in the very near future? No biggie, but I can wait a bit. Going to use it in my car and waiting for the BMW MOST (optical bus) adaptor to come out.
Is this the best apple can do?
Was a huge fan of U2 but they haven't made a decent album since Achtung baby. I saw on Australian TV when Bono was being interviewed and he said U2 would call it a day when tehy made two bad albums. I make that at least two albums past their sell by date.
He also announced u2 would reschedule their cancelled Australlian shows for November. What is it over 2 months since he said that and still no other press release on it.
OK we really do sympathise on the illness of one of the bands children but this high and mighty band should show some respect to their fans too. The word is they are going to cancel the shows all along

Australians are just piss off because U2 canceled their shows there and now they are just bashing on U2 on this forum.
Come on guys. I know is frustrating not having U2 coming, but it still could happen and plus there is a good reason why they postponed their dates due to an illness on probably Edge's daughter.
So, just be patient or just go cry somewhere else.

Pop was a fine album, just rushed. Atomic Bomb was a very good album as well. ATCYLB was the subpar one.

I'm not Australian, and I could care less if I ever see or hear anything of U2 again. I've heard their music and it's just "meh". I'm not saying they are the worst band in the world, but I'm sure there are more deserving bands that an iPod could be made in honor of.gugy said:

The truth is, I can careless for U2 ipod. I like the generic ones better. for one, they have larger capacity, are more subtle and maybe have a bigger resale value IMHO. I like U2, but I have no reason to bash them for the fact I don't like their ipod.
So, if you don't like it, don't buy it and stop whining.

U2 probably pays Apple to do this. In the end, U2 gets more publicity ( I mean they have an ipod line named after them!) and Apple gets paid more than they lose money trying to sell these things.

why bash U2 for their music just because you don't like the U2 ipod? This thread is not about U2 music. Unfortunately it became one because I guess there is nothing else for this people to do.
Apple just update their U2 ipod. It's that such a big deal?
The reason of other artists not having their ipods are unknown at this time. But, I don't think is U2's fault.
I don't mind join a constructive discussion, unfortunately, you and many others are here just to bash and nothing else.

But really the headline of that articles is so dead wrong, it can't take the rest for anything but a laugh. And as for a Phone taking over the iPods spot, well yes if Apple sits around and does nothing about it, my bet would be Apple release a iPod phone or keeps those iTunes Phones coming out. But until Phones get iTunes and hold enough music(atleast 1K songs) we might see Apple nano line up becoming a phone, but its so tiny right now, why change it. And until a phone can hold 60Gb of Music, Photos and Vidoe, Apple will be fine
Also iTMS is cheaper(has more stuff and easier to find) then any Phone based company music, and i want the music on my Mac as well

You seem to be the only person who has a problem with the content of this thread, and you obviously know very little about constructive discussions because you are also the only person who feels the need to complain about whether or not this thread has shifted from it's original topic. This is how discussions work, the topic changes from one aspect to another while revolving solely around a single overall topic; in this case, the U2 iPod. Meaning, we are all free to discuss U2 iPods themselves as well as ordinary iPods in relation to the U2 iPod, U2 as a band, the idea of Apple creating versions of the iPod for other bands, and any other variation of the original topic we see fit, so long as the OP does not have a problem with it. Honestly, while I can understand many are hoping for the new versions of nanos to come out or an update to the video models (which probably won't happen for a couple years) I think this U2 iPod actually looks kinda cool and stands out on its own.
The red click wheel and black stainless steel surely looks more appealing than the boring all white models out there, so from that perspective I'm sure it'll appeal to the buyers out there wanting something different.
As for all this talk of U2 being a crappy band etc. lol honestly everyone is entitled to their own opinion and taste in music. Personally, I think U2 was at their best up until 2000 when 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' came out. Since then, I agree that their music has taken a turn for the worse.
p.s. perhaps in future Apple could consider releasing a Rolling Stones edition or perhaps a Led Zeppelin edition...although LZ isn't currently available on iTunes. But whatever they release it should be a legendary band, not some piece of **** new one that is hardly known.
