New Ultra today?

Any chance we might get a surprise release of a new Apple Watch Ultra 4? I‘ve been reading some news and rumors that Apple won‘t wait til 2027 to refresh the Ultras and suddenly I‘m full of hope.

No chance. The current model has only been out since September.

Wow, really? Thought the Ultra was out since Fall 2024. Thanks, then my Series 7 has to last another 6 months at least.

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 was released in Fall 2025. We might see an Ultra 4 this Fall but might not. The Ultra 2 ran for 2 years with only a new colour option for the second year.

I went from a Series 7 to an Ultra 3. So glad I did. The series 7 was barely lasting to bed time after taking it off the charger in the morning. On the Ultra 3 I have around 25% left after 48 hours.

So far, Apple has only ever announced and released Ultra and Series model watches in September. Occasionally the SE is updated in the first half of the year, but even the new SE was released last autumn, so I doubt that will see an update early this year.

Given the very minor changes from Ultra 2 in 2023 to Ultra 3 in 2025, I’d be SHOCKED to see an Ultra 4 before fall 2027. I’ve owned every Ultra model, and other than some extra battery life and ability to dim the screen farther in darkness, I notice literally zero on-wrist difference between them. I *might* notice if someone secretly switched me back to the Ultra 1 from my current 3? But I wouldn’t bet a lot of cash on that.
