Hiya...i just bought a mba a couple of days ago and i was a window user for a long time so i m not very much familiar with OS. So can anybody tell me how to install desired software in mba as i installed skype, vlc media player and torrent but whenever i restart mba every installed software is gone....so please guide me that how can i install desired software packages without trouble of being removed..I also want to install MS Office is there anyway of installing office or some similar package without paying????Please reply

yes i know how to install softwares but problem is i cant find those softwares after restarting mba it dont shows up....where i can locate them???

They are located in the Applications folder. Open Finder, press CMD+SHIFT+A to access it or go to Finder > Go > Applications or use the shortcut in the Sidebar (the bar on the left with "All my files", "Documents" and so on) or use Spotlight (CMD+SpaceBar) to search for an application or file.

It seems, like you downloaded just the DMG file, double clicked on that file and then double clicked on the application inside. As the installation guide I pointed to describes, you have to copy/drag the application from the mounted DMG to the Applications folder.

You can install something like OpenOffice for free

But discussions about how to crack/install MS Office through means that are not legitimate is a violation of Forum Rules
 
and where i can find launchpad???

Press F4 on your keyboard or click the Launchpad icon, looks like this:

Thank You very much Simsaladimbamba ....i followed the way u told me.. opened vlc and dragged it in applications. so is it installed now?if yes then how can i change the app for media files. For example all video files are by default opening by quicktime and i want to change it to vlc

Right click on a media file
Select "get info"
Use the "open with" dialogue box
Set to use this application to open all files of this type
 
yes it helped and i m able to associate with other app....thanks for dat but em not sure yet that softwares are now installed for permanent or these will go after restart or may be after some update???
