I’m a Windows XP and Win 7 user who is considering my first Apple iMac. I was impressed after seeing someone running XP using Parallels on a MacBook Pro.

My question – since I’m a registered user of both Windows operating systems, what happens when I attempt to install/activate either one on Parallels? I suspect I will be told that I already have activated and that I can’t run the OS on two systems. Has anyone encountered this situation?

What versions of Windows do you have? Retail version can often be installed on couple of computers without issues but OEM only works on one computer.

Others' results will vary I'm sure, but it was easy for me. I used my Win XP disc that I had previously used on a Windows PC. It didn't validate and required that I call. When I did, IIRC, I simply entered the activation code over the phone, and then it validated fine. I didn't even have to talk to a real person. Both machines still update without issue too.

Parallels Question

Thanks to all who replied to my question.

Yes, both Windows OS's are retail versions.
