Hey guys, long time reader first time poster. Basically needed a little advice from anyone willing to help.
Basically I head to college in late September and sold my old HP to make room to take a MacBook to college, then I got completely caught up in rumors and forums describing the possible upcoming update and decided I would wait it out. I told myself I would never get a Windows machine again but then after researching for months and being tossed around by Apple's tendency to play things close to the belt I'm wondering if I should just get the new Vaio SR which, even to macrumors folk, is an amazing machine at a very low price.

2.4 ghz
120 Mb
2 GB
nice radeon graphics card
BD
fingerprint reader
LED
4lbs

less than 1600$

and much more that would cost 2600$+ in a comparable mac. Anyone have an argument as to why I should continue to wait it put for an update that may not happen? Thanks in advance guys.

How much is OS X worth to you?

Seriously though, the new VAIO line is impressive to say the least. Though I'm not sure where you're paying $2,600 for a "comparable" MacBook Pro (the base $1,999 model competes very well).

As for your question of, "an update that may not happen?" is silly. Apple will update their notebooks. It's simply a matter how soon.

Go for it, its a brilliant machine..
Dont mean to put you down or anything but College/Uni is a very crucial stage in Academic Life and its better to use an operating system/user interface which your brain is already familiar with rather than wasting time learning another one while the precious time could be spent doing other things.

Just my two pence worth..

The machine is stunning, best looking laptop I've seen in a long time with a impressive spec. I would suggest buying that dual booting XP (or Vista if you REALLY want to) and Leopard. I have that setup on my 12" XPS and it runs soooo sweet!

I suggest just running XP --- vista will crash on you 24/7 -- and waste your precious time...

Not sure how you would go about getting Leopard on there, Auggie2k
(no rudeness or sarcasm intended)..

It's actually much simpler than you'd expect... good auld Intel CPU's :)

If you want a good guide or help, just PM.

Only thing is, if you come back here needing help with the use of that, we won't. Something to keep in mind.

Personally, I don't see how you can compare this PC of yours to a MacBook that isn't even out yet. Wait for Montevina if you can; if not, buy a current MacBook or that one PC.

In that case would the PC be running bootcamp and what about all drivers?
No, a Dual Boot with two partitions, no Boot Camp.

Well I'll help... it's still Leopard, but with different hardware.

Not to mention that you void the leopard License and will probably void the VAIOs warranty, thus making your suggestion completely out of the question..

On a serious note, this thread has diverged/divulged too much into crap, unnecessary .. We need to help this guy out, (parkeyb) , ...

Haha think you just broke your own rule. Oh definitely, XP for as long as possible or until Windows 7 comes out (hoping that the good Windows / bad Windows routine is still running). It's just so much better its crazy, only Microsoft would release an OS in 2007 that can't compete with one from 2001.

95 / 98 / NT / 2K / ME / XP / Vista / 7
:confused: / :eek: / :( / :rolleyes: / :eek: / :D / :mad::mad: / :)

Lets hope windows 7 doesnt inherit much of windows vista like the sucky user interface with the clammy/cloggy babylike buttons etc etc and the stupid shutdown/login/logoff/etc etc noises etc etc.. they bug me... senseless...

Yeah, because college life is soooo hard. No way one could insert learning other things with homework.
